There are some things that are completely IMPOSSIBLE right? I mean, not just infinitesimally small odds but completely impossible? Or is there actually tiny tiny odds of literally almost anything happening? One thing I always use as an illustration of a certainty is the sun rising tomorrow. Do you guys consider this is something that is CERTAIN or just VERY VERY LIKELY?
Well... Seeing as how the Sun is a star, and stars eventually die. I'd have to say yes, it is not only possible but inevitable that the Sun will one day not rise, tomorrow.
If the world is destroyed the sun won't rise. There is always a possibility that a large meteor or a nuclear event could destroy us.
Isn't there like a .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that with quantum tunneling, the Sun could just 'disappear' into another part of the universe? I'm no expert in quantum physics but that is my very layman understanding. I understand the more mass an object has, the effects of quantum tunneling are lessened so the percentage chance of something as massive as the sun would pretty much be a limit approaching 0.
The sun will come out tomorrow So you gotta hang on 'til tomorrow, come what may! Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow You're only a day away!
Yeah, it's all about an object's quantum wavelength compared to the relative size of the barrier. If you call the gravitational well of the milky way galaxy the "barrier" that the sun would have to tunnel out of, and then you compute the quantum wavelength of something as massive as the sun, which would be ridiculously tiny, then there just aren't enough zeroes to express the probability of the sun tunneling out of the galaxy. It is essentially and completely impossible for the sun to tunnel somewhere else. As to the OP, the sun is pretty much going to be there on the timescale of "tomorrow" but I guess something awful could happen to Earth, as others have noted. But even a huge meteor strike wouldn't suppress all our angular momentum, so even if the surface of the earth was a barren, smoldering, lifeless slag heap, I think the sun will be rising tomorrow.
I'd say the sun rising is effectively certain, and there isn't much point in referencing the small chance that it won't. If it doesn't, I've got bigger problems. Taking the time to acknowledge the chance it won't happen is just being a smart-alek for no reason (which I've taken to calling a dumb-alek with my kids -- they seem to take too much pride in 'smart-alek' so I had to give it a more appropriate name).
I imagine the sun could expand or contract at any time and remove the atmosphere out of its temperature band for water's gaseous or liquid states or chemical composure, at that point it would probably be a matter of days for animals and particularly humans to die off.
The sun didn't rise for 3 days following the crucifixion of Jesus. Speaking of which, do any of you know if that 3 day period of darkness was documented anywhere besides the Bible? Edit: Sorry 3 hours not days https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crucifixion_darkness
