    No.

You run out of ways to answer "what can you do better", "what was the difference" or "what do you think was the key tonight"

I don't give a crap about coach or player interviews.

I have much more problem with Doris Burke and what she says than Pop.

Really? How so? She seems rather prepared, composed and professional asking probing questions. Whereas Pop isnt a team player and hangs his media teammates out to dry. Pop's grumpy old man stick is dumb AF.

Malakas, as a woman, dont you feel like Doris is getting slighted here?

Everyone knows Pop's style... it's been known since I can remember. Why do reporters keep asking the same stupid questions? At this point, they have it coming. Just ask his players if you want any info.

Unless they do it intentionally and are actually fishing for a grumpy Pop.

I don't think she was suggesting that he acts differently towards women than men.

She's saying that she's OK with expressing how it bothered her, even if people will call her out on it (particularly) because she's a woman.

The point about JVG is just to say that Popovich is capable of being cordial rather than adversarial with the interviewer, if he wishes to be. I initially voted No in the poll, but I think she makes a valid point.

If there's one thing I never want to hear it's the media crying about their jobs. Deal with it. Nobody cares. We have ACTUAL problems here in the real world.

The person interviewing Pop should flip the script and just not interview him or make him answer two completely off topic questions. Make him walk to the area, get on camera, then walk away or something. that would be hilarious.

I think his shtick is a little annoying, but I don't have a problem with it. I have more of a problem everyone thinking his short answers are so funny and endearing.

I think the in-game interviews are pointless and should be done away with, but, at the same time, Pop's inconsideration to the reporters is embarrassing. Who, like him, are just trying to do their job. The questions are not always dumb. It's so phony when he pretends to be dumbfounded by a general question like "what can you guys improve on in the second half?" Post game he's fine.

If it was Cam Newton, he would get roasted. Pop doesn't deserve a pass. He needs to stop acting like an ******* and get with the program, or get fined.

If it was a black coach or athlete the media would roast them for it. The media needs to do the same for pop.

Pop's in the entertainment business. That's why his boss obligates him to do media interviews. That he's really bad at this aspect of his job obviously does not outweigh all the things he's good at, so his employer tolerates it. If I were the Spurs owner, though, I'd be embarrassed that he doesn't treat the media with more respect and I probably would have triaged the problem a long time ago. It is one way an otherwise classy organization isn't so classy. But, they're apparently cool with it, so whaddya gonna do?

I'm with Doris and Pop's behavior is terrible.

The TV NETWORK and the LEAGUE are PARTNERS. Teammates. They have to work together. And the ONUS is on Pop to be a "good teammate" and cooperate with the interviewer. Doris doesn't ask dumb/stock questions. They are good questions and Pop should answer them like an adult.

The "grumpy old man" schtick is beyond stale. Pop wouldn't tolerate that nonsense from his own coaching staff and team and thus he shouldn't show a double standard in how he acts with the TV Networks.

He is a total dick with the way he treated those poor reporters.

I agree with him that the NBA shouldn't do this sideline interview during the game, but since this is the way the league wants, he, as an employee of the NBA, should just do his job, not act like a jerk.

I too would prefer that the league get rid of the sideline interviews after the first and third quarters. They are lame and I'm sure most coaches aren't fond of it.

I doubt that will happen though.

I do have a feeling that the NBA will soon crack down on how some coaches (such as Pop) behave during their interactions with the media though, and firmly re-establish what's appropriate conduct and what's not. They may not call out Popovich directly, but instead send an internal memo/warning to all NBA coaches and players. I think the league wants to quietly get a handle on this issue before somebody takes it too far.

Fair points - most media questions are stupid. most player/coach answers are stupid, anything meaningful is kept under wraps until it's no longer meaningful, so why play the game and waste everyone's time?

OP and his friend are probably post-millennials. They also most likely received participation ribbons in school every year.

80-90% of the time, pop is just doing schtick and i'm fine with it. occasionally he seems to veer into being mean, which i'm not fine with.

i don't think the "sideline reporters are just doing their job" perspective is any reason pop has to give a real answer to the questions, but it is a reason he shouldn't be mean or demeaning.

as for whether he should be a professional and answer the questions, i don't know. the other 29 coaches do it, why can't he. on the other hand, who cares what they do. they just give us a bunch of cliches and boring thoughts and might just talk because they like the sound of their own voice. if pop doesn't want to be eloquent, i don't see why he should be.

and finally, as it pertains to the league and the networks being partners. if the job is to entertain, then the networks seem to love what pop does. i can't remember the last spurs game i watched where they weren't hyping the pop interview. or joking about the sideline reporter/booth guy about to do the interview when the spurs are trailing. one reporter even said something like they checked getting ignored by pop off their bucket list. maybe they're just rolling with the punches and don't enjoy it, but they certainly seem to generally enjoy it, or at the very least think it makes for entertaining television, which ultimately is all the networks actually care about. for as much as pop wants the in-game interview to be gone, he might be doing the most to keep it alive.

as for doris's opinion, she's entitled to feel how she wants. i don't particularly get it, from her or anyone. if i was a sideline reporter why would i expect a lengthy and thoughtful response and be disappointed if i didn't get it? i already know how he'll be. and it's not like anyone is getting on the sideline reporters for the outcome of the interviews. all eyes are on pop. and "turnovers...turnovers" wasn't a particularly brutal response or anything. the first was an honest assessment, the second was either trying to be funny by giving the same response to indicate how mad he was about them or it was a poorly communicated way to point out that the offensive turnovers hurt the defense. either way, he didn't seem particularly mean about it.
