You're seriously giving him credit for "winning the game" when he gave up 5 runs in the first 3 innings?

Out of 6 innings, he had a terrible 1 with 4 runs, and 5 innings of 1 run game.
Plus, it was at Coors and team gave him a cushion.

    Did he pitched good? No
But it was not a game he struggled, he did one inning, not the game, at a very tough ballpark.

So the numbers were awful but the game he only struggled in 1 inning.

Should've traded somebody like Woj to the Jays for him last yr. It's not like KKKarter couldn't be replaced.

If I was Luhnow Valencia would be staying at Minute Maid after this series is over.

With three more hits and a homer in three straight games, Villar is now up to a .414 OBP and a .883 OPS, along with a 20th stolen base.

As a Brewers fan, when we traded for Villar, i mainly just hoped he could be a somewhat decent place-holder at SS until next year when our highly ranked SS prospect Arcia gets the job.

Watching Villar play so far though, i'm pretty stunned at just how good he's been. He looks to be an ideal leadoff hitter for us for years to come with 33 walks in only 190 at bats, even if his batting average goes down some. I can certainly live with some of his random brainfarts on the bases with overall production like this.

With Arcia our SS of the future, i see Villar being moved to secondbase next year where he could be a plus defender instead of mediocre at short.

Could you guys have seen something like this coming from Villar because the guy has easily been the high point of our rebuilding season so far?

We saw flashes but never saw consistency within any part of his game.

I saw it. He's an electric player. He will strike out and make stupid mistakes both in the field and on the bases (not to mention in the clubhouse), but he can be an above average everyday player for a long time and still has a bit of upside to get close to sustaining what he's done this season and be a borderline star.

The walks nobody saw coming, but the physical gifts were always there for him to be good. I would pump the brakes on expecting him to be anywhere near this good moving forward, his BABIP is grossly out of whack right now. Still if he can keep walking he's gonna be solid.

Defensively he has always has plus range, and a good arm for SS, but he was extremely mistake prone. That's another aspect he seems to have improved so far.

He is going to be a very nice second basemen, as he has range at SS but makes way too many errors on easy plays and throws (even tough he has a great range. The problem for him at Houston is we have Altuve there.

He has all the talent, he just need to work on the mental aspect.

    You got a steal there.

What would you give us for Gomez????????

I get that he may not be able to consistently keep up a .300 plus batting average, but the amazing number of walks he draws does seem legit. Our manager told Villar that if he gets on base, the leadoff hitter job is his to keep and from that point on, his patience/pitch selection has remained spot on. The guy rarely swings at a pitch out of the strikezone.

You are correct on his defense. He has range and a great arm, but at times will blow very simple plays. That's why i think he'll be moved to secondbase next year given we have a top 10 prospect in AAA who plays short.

I have zero explanation for what happened to Gomez. He was my favorite player on the Brewers for a few years, even with his brainfarts on the bases. Why he's fallen apart at the plate so badly for you guys i can't figure out. He always swung crazy hard in every at bat for us also, but it lead to mostly great production.

I'd be very pissed if i was an Astros fan that he's gone from a top overall CF in the game to a scrub in a blink.

Do you think the hit on the head has something to do with it?

He won't be a good leadoff hitter long-term. I don't think he'll be better at 2B than SS. He has the range and arm for 2B, but just makes mistakes. I was at the game Wednesday and couldn't help but laugh at seeing him miss the ball during infield warmups between innings, and then Angel Hernandez going running after it. I've always been very high on him though. I think he is a good player, and thought he would do well. He reminds me so much of Julio Lugo who had a few very productive seasons before falling off.

Another thing I noticed is Carter's OPS falling below .800. He must have been slumping recently.
