I read VV adopted a sinker in the spring to keep his pitch counts down but he's still struggling with that.

Eshelman is 21 years old in A+ ball with a 3.60 era. That isn't terrible but nothing special either.

Villar has had a very nice start. He also has a babip of over 410. That is not likely to remain so high.

Hader has been excellent in AA, although I have doubts he is a starter long term.

Mengden will get a shoot soon.

As it is, the Astros haven't really made a deal that really set the team back yet.

I was against a number of the deals when they made them. Some have worked out, others not so much and some look like a push.

I would think the Astros will be more careful in the future... Then again maybe not, have heard Astros talking to A's about Danny Valencia to play third with Preston Tucker, Divinski etc being involved.

He has stamina issues and sometimes issues with putting guys away, resulting in high pitch counts. Had potential to be a Curt Shilling type pitcher but there are a lot of red flags from health, to stamina, to command and also slightly better control. I am sure the Astros would like him back but you are seeing the weaknesses in his profile playing out as well.

He and McCullers are basically interchangeable.

Kind of true, but Lance has shown he can do it, last year. So if I had to pick one, it would be Lance.

Might be worth it just to not face him again

I'd be down for that trade, great stop gap until Bregman is ready. I couldn't believe it when the Blue Jays DFA'ed him last year.

First of all, I would hope that the Astros do not trade away prospects when the team is not within striking distance of first place. The Astros are not quite there yet. Maybe by the trade deadline.

Second, Danny Valencia is part time, utility player who through 37 games is having a career year at the plate, .950 OPS (0.6 WAR). Through 48 games Valbuena has also posted a 0.6 WAR. Appears to be a marginal upgrade.

Plus, Devenski has already posted a 0.9 WAR, in 14 games and 42 IPs.

    From ESPN:

"In addition to the soreness in his elbow, it's believed that Foltynewicz has bone chips as well."

    Bregman is ready

Rather see Bregman here after Super 2 has passed rather than move assets for a stop gap 3B.

I would have no problem trading guys like Preston and Devenski in the right deal, but not for a guy like Valencia

    My take on Villar

As you guys know, i like Villar, last year i wanted him to play over Lowrie, and of course, my "beloved pest" disagreed furiously and laughed.

Now, my problem with Villar is that he can't play regular SS for a club playing for the playoffs because he makes way too many mental mistakes at SS and on the bases. He needs a team like Brewers to developed and make the mistakes and learn from them. He has the abiity for sure. He is a guy that will hit from 10-15 homers and steal over 15 bases.

Yes, i understand we had to trade him, but an even trade. If not, keep him and play him over Duffy.
Same with Straily, all of you guys know i like him, he was very good with Oakland. Yes, we had to trade him, but for Kratz???? Right now he is pitching better than K!!!!!!!

If you are truly talking "right now" Straily has given up 8 earned runs in his last 13 innings.

Correct, but careful with those numbers because:

Last outing 6 innings 5 runs
But the "other" outing you are talking he pitched 7 innings of 3 runs

I take that 7 inning outing

And the 5 run game, in 6 innings he won the game at Colorado
