I had a refreshing experience at the doctor regarding opioids yesterday. I have been dealing with chronic back pain for almost 4 years stemming from a basketball injury. It comes and goes, but when it's bad, I can't sit, stand, or lie on my back (only can lie on side). I am paranoid when it comes to medications. I don't drink on them, not even on Advil. I'm also afraid of becoming addicted. Anyways, I've seen several doctors for my back. Some of them haven't even lifted my shirt to inspect it or done x-rays. They just listen to me, I tell them what the other doctors have told me, and they prescribe me Hydrocodone (10/325). Finally, yesterday, I saw a doctor who prescribed a different medication. He told me he "doesn't believe in hydrocodone." Anyways, being that Congress has been taking a look at the over precribing and addiction troubles with opioids, I thought I would share the story. 5+ doctors prescribed hydro without blinking, only 1 didn't.
What did he prescribe? Most Dr's as you mentioned still go for the opioids. I'm in a similar situation, but an injection and some PT has helped, unfortunately neck is a different story... Anyway on lower back, some Mother ****er thought it would be funny in high school ball to foul me during pre-game layups/dunks (this was in practice so just a drill), I landed awkward and lower back has always flared up every few years. I mean I'd rather have a good game or even pickup game story, but no... My own teammate ****ed me over. I wish I'd knew it was coming, because I at least could have prepped better, it was basically like a sucker punch and I landed way wrong (in today's nba, at least flag 2 with few game suspension, hahah).
have you tried this book? a lot of people live by it. goes into the mental aspect of back pain. people have said it helped heal their back pain, without medicines or surgery. worth a shot if you tried everything else http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-...dp/0446557684?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
Was religion really the reason he didn't want to do any surgery (Dr's wouldn't sign off on not needing blood transfusion etc.)?? I saw conflicting reports on that... And if so... I blame Jehovah's Witnesses. Thanks, guys!! I'm fine if we all don't believe in the Spaghetti Monster, but.... yeah, any religion that limits quality of life can **** off. I mean it's the patient's choice and if their faith requires it fine..., but if the injuries were as bad as mentioned the pain killers are only a crutch. And being that he was a rich star he probably could get access to anything. I am surprised Jehovah didn't say "no" to the good drugs... Lol, I'll ask next time they come to my door. "if I join, is it okay to take the good drugs, but not transfusions from surgery/accident to better my quality of life??", "awesome, get me some drugs" "actually, gtfo" Prince was a great musician, but the cult killed him, he still had plenty of music left.
imo the majority of primary care physicians in the states are little more than salesmen in whites coats for big pharma :X
Primary care doctors aren't the problem. Their decline and the rise of specialists is a greater problem. But yeah I agree there are a lot of ****ty doctors that will prescribe anything with little regard for the patient or too many doctors that will bend to the will of the patient who demands certain popular drugs or procedures they see on tv or heard about thru some random news story.

I will definitely check it out. Thank you! Ketorolac and Cyclobenzaprine (left over from previous flare up in early January. That's rough, man. Mine didn't even come from a fall, just a weird movement. First doctor said it was a hyper extension. Nobody has ever really diagnosed it as anything else.
I liked MANY of his songs including Purple Rain, but my favorite is... Spoiler <iframe width="1310" height="737" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cdndDHbNFqI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> IMHO, the lyrics are phenomenal! ....... ....... .......
Thanks so much, man! I'll check those out at next Dr visit, well try at least. Yeah, I still remember that jackass every time it messes up, it's like an awkward step can send pretty bad pain but fortunately not too often and haven't had super crazy flare up in few years now (thankfully). Injury happened ~16 years ago, and when I tweak it just right I remember it all. My real issue now is this neck thing I've been dealing with, somehow slight herniation (not bad enough for surgery, but bad enough that when I move neck certain way left trap locks). Injections and pt seem to be working, at least taking edge off, but it was like freak accident, just looked down one day and all the sudden terrible pain (like something slipped). Anyway, I hope you have good progress/recovery, people don't understand how bad a flare up can be until they have one. I mean a bad one can be so debilitating, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'll also have to check that book out! Take care!
I know was this post was for Kevooooo, but thanks for suggesting it, I'm willing to try anything! Repped both you guys, really appreciate it!
his best work was on dirty mind. that album was perverted and fun. Spoiler <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/J1oaoHhhMD4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
That solo at the end though, I melt. I've been trying to learn it, but you just can't get the same sound. I watched Purple Rain for the first time (I'd seen bits and pieces through the years) and thought it was awful, but that ending....oooo eeee!
