So that makes like 20 of us and one of Sam Fisher who can't continue to juggle the balls of the Rockrts front office long enough to accept that it's not just a fantasy.
That's impossible. Conley, Durant, Horford are all max guys. None of them are going to take a substantial paycut.
Do you have anybody other than Lowry for whom this is even arguably true? You're also assembling a a fantasy universe in which there's a giant middle class of incrementally better options available at bargain prices who make you incrmentally better- ti simply doesn't work that way. Getting a few guys who are mariginally better than replacement level players isn't nearly as useful as getting one guy who is substantially better. The other thign is that you don't seem to undersand how this all works? There is very little to no opportunity cost for offering players contracts in the NBA .... unless they sign the contract. It is effectively free. Imagine you saw a truck of overturned lottery tickets. You're arguing that rather than grab the powerballs, you should instead grab the $10,000 scratchoffs. How about this, grab whatever the **** you want because there's a bunch of other things out there that are going to determine whether or not you win.
You know what, Sam, I'll concede to what you're saying as gospel and end the argument as that. Rather than continuing this "argument", we'll just wait and see what Morey/Les does with FA this summer.
If we had landed Bosh we would have likely forgiven Lowry slipping through; however, if we had landed Bosh, we'd be in pretty bad shape right now.
"all in" when offers are virtually free to make doesn't mean anything. Some of the idiots in this thread think that even entertaining the idea of getting Durant AUTOMATICALLY FORECLOSES ALL OTHER POSSIBILITES, because the entire Rockets franchise has to get into a Consestoga wagon and spend the entire offseason riding to Oklahoma and trying not to die of dysentery and keeping thier horses properly watered. It doesn't work like that. It never has.
So basically the Rockets were a leading contender for Lowry - for 11 hours, until the Raptors decided there was no way they would let him leave?
I think the bigger concern is having a Bosh/Melo moment. They let Lowry slip, and Parsons go while waiting on those guys. Given recent happenings, this looks much worse than it did at the time of course. Lowry's a perennial all-star, Bosh is not healthy. When it comes to Durant, how long do you wait? Do you forego an 80% shot with Conley/Horford, while waiting for the 5% shot in Durant?
Heh, I love the "shouldn't have chased Bosh for Parsons because health" argument. But anwyay - you seem to understand the game theory part of the equation. However, the chances are rarely as stark as "80% of all-star - 5% superstar " unless you're massively overpaying for somebody, and the "forego" part is just wrong. The Rockets pursued both Lowry AND Carmelo AND Bosh and others....I guess you can argue that had the Rockets had a piece of paper in front of Lowry, he would have signed it in the 12-24 hours or so before he decided to resign with the Raptors, for more money than the Rockets were able to offer without an S&T, which the Raptors refused to do.....anything is possible, but it's not 80 to 5.
No, they were a leading contender for Lowry....until Morey made it clear the Rockets would not extend an offer until Melo made his decision. Lowry's not an idiot. He didn't wanna sit around and potentially cost himself millions while teams quickly used up their capspace on other free agents. If Morey had made an offer immediately, Lowry might've gone for it.
Yes, for 11 hours - until the Raptors offered more money than the Rockets could and vowed not to do an S&T. You're basically arguing that Lowry would have taken less money to come here, had the Rockets merely not made additional offers to others. Maybe, but probably not.
Absolutely, Bosh was way more perfect for us than Lowry. Howard Bosh Parsons Harden Beverley Absolutely perfect starting 5, way more than: Howard Jones (he was the starter at the time) Parsons Harden Lowry
Yeah Parsons, for all his warts, is a better fit next to Harden than Ariza because we had a second guy who could score in multiple ways. That, and a bit of luck from a health standpoint, would have put us near the top. Of course, Bev, Parsons and Bosh have not been the picture of health (nor Howard).
If you really wanna see some piss poor management from the FO all to chase free agents just remember how Morey traded a first round draft pick And Jeremey Lin for NOTHING. Before Bosh even had a pen in his hand to sign a contract. That folks is pure stupidity and the ALL IN approach.
The point of bringing up young players is talking about their potential over their stats. All 3 of Capela, Harrell, and McDaniels are players that could help someone win now and are better players than some of the surrounding talent in OKC......also factor in that this is on top of it being a team with Harden and they'd have cap space for another max guy....and they could even bring back Motiejunas if he'd agree to wait till after the moves are made so the Rockets can use his Bird rights. Again, that's going to be what they are going to try and sell him and it's a pretty sweet offer....if he doesn't mind D'Antoni. I don't think anyone wants to play for D'Antoni so I doubt it works, but it'll be one of his top offers if he wants a chance to be the best player on a championship team. Of course if he's given up on the idea of being the best player on a championship team and he just wants to find someone else's coattails to ride to a championship so he can technically have a ring then there are better options like the Spurs and if it's 100% about money, he stays in OKC for one more year and rolls the dice that he'll get a better situation next season.
