I think you knew exactly what I meant, but in case you didn't.... Does air density affect a thrown baseball? Sure. Does gravity affect a thrown baseball? Not measurably at 2200ft above sea level. Does gravity affect air density? That is a physics discussion. I'm game if you are.
In other news, AJ Reed with a 3 hit day (including a double). He hasn't hit a long ball in awhile, but the hit tool is coming back around for him. Hits in 7 of 8 games since returning from the DL. James Hoyt has also continued to deal down in AAA. Sub 2 ERA, Sub 1 WHIP, and 43 Ks in 26 innings.
Hope Reed keeps it up, only a couple of weeks away from not worrying about Super II and he could be here
Franklin Perez vs. Peoria: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R (2 earned), BB, 5 K 3.75 ERA in his first 3 appearances with Quad Cities. $1 million signing in 2014 is surely someone to watch for in the future.
Also... the Dominican Summer League will begin play this weekend. Gilberto Celestino, who signed for $2.5 million last July, is slated to begin his road to Houston in the DSL.
Sorry if this has been addressed (don't want to read the whole thread). When is Bregman expected to be called up? I didn't expect it any time real soon, but I've heard some guys acting like it could be this year...
I dont think he is expected to be called up. It would be nice if it happens and a possibility, but decent chance we dont see him until next season.
I think that if Houston gets within 3 games of .500 by June 15th, Bregman will be called up by July 1st. If Houston is not in contention Bregman will not get called up until next season.
But that makes more sense if the opposite is true. If you have a team that's on a good winning pace... you really want to be getting a rookie some deer-in-headlights/needs-time-to-get-up-to-speed AB's in the midst of a pennant chasing run? He's not a generational Carlos Corrrea-type player in the minds of this front office... but that doesn't mean they don't expect him to be a solid MLB player. That said, there's always an adjustment period. On the flip-side, if this team is out of it... they're going to cut dead weight/be sellers at the deadline... which should open enough 40 man spots to get the young guys up, have them get solid experience, and hit the ground running next year (pretty much what the 2000 Astros did in advance of their pennant winning 2001 season). Basically, I believe they have a plan for him regardless of what this team does in the standings... as it should be. Players who are *ready* need to be promoted as so (with a buffer of a few months here and there for salary concerns, but not entire half-season or full years).
Unless they are planning to keep him down there until next June, there's no point in waiting past the Super 2 deadline in a few weeks. And if they do wait and he continues to perform at his current level, you're going to have some push back from him and others.
Yeah, I forgot they do that sometimes. Both teams were flying out after the game so they had mutually agreed on a cut-off time to end it.

From that list only Martes and Cameron have seen any significant dip in their stock, the rest have either maintained or significantly outperformed expectations. Bregman, Reed, Tucker, Musgrove, Paulino, and Fisher are all probably in the Top 100 prospects in baseball.
