What you mean by fan hood, as if people have an obligation to support a team that continuously makes questionable decisions, I understand your optimism, but no one has an obligation to a team they have no control over.
I don't care if you don't put money into the team... But people are literally hoping for the team to fail. That's not being a fan. Period. When you say "I hope he gets fired." You are hoping for ANOTHER 2015-16 season. You are hoping things go so bad he gets fired. How is that anything close to being a Houston Rockets Fan?
No one ever has any obligation to be a fan of a sports team. But if you CHOOSE to be a fan, you are committing to supporting the TEAM. If you don't support many of the players (who are tradeable), the coach (who is NEW), the GM (who agrees that MDA is not best choice) and the owner (who is acting no differently than when you first became a fan) then you're not supporting the team in any way, shape or form. There are people on this board who do nothing all day but trash ANYTHING about this organization 10-15 times a day. They will go into the Dish and mention it there, they'll bring it up in the Hangout. These people may have been fans in the past, but they certainly aren't anymore. They are just fans of themselves now. And they will become fans again in the future. But what kind of fan is that?
Yeah, I guess hoping a team will fail, and just thinking the team will fail based on it's decisions are two different things. I just feel that people in no way should feel they should have a blind loyalty to any team. It's not like they are not legitimate Houston fans who are out there who are possibly not questioning their loyalty to the team.
Hard to be optimistic He is about as successful . . .without Nash . . . as Mike Brown is without LeBron. Rocket River
i am hoping things get so bad that les finally contemplates cashing in his chips and sells the team. this is already a failed organization, no point in sniffing the hopium that it will ever have a chance of getting to the finals under the idiot in charge at the top. people who love this franchise should instead hope that the day to finally start anew simply comes sooner than later
Well again, if we are talking about investing money into the team then that's something different. If we are talking about predicting the team will be bad then that's different. I don't think 6ers fans will go into next year with much hope to be better either, but they are still fans. To me a fan is being blindly loyal. You are a Rockets fans, for life. How you support the team differs...but a fan NEVER hopes their team does bad. That's what I hope for the Mavs, Spurs, Warriors... If your loyalty to a team wavers because the team is bad then you are a bandwagon fan. Go follow the Warriors...or maybe the Thunder...depending on who wins of course. Yeah, you won't find many coaches that have success without superstar players. As for what I know will be the response to that. Carmelo has run through every coach he's had and MDA stint for the Lakers consisted of Dwight (Another famed coach killer by now.) and old guys who could barely stay on the court. Not that MDA is without excuses, but the narrative that he was the guy holding those teams back I'm not buying. So you are hoping things get bad so he sells the team instead of just hoping that this hire will work out and turn the team around? Seems counter productive. So instead of hoping for the team to improve now you are hoping for years and years of failure...
Again, this stuff reminds me of Mario Williams. When the Texans drafted him you had a bunch of "Fans" hoping the pick flame out just so they could pound their chest about how the team should have drafted Reggie Bush or Vince Young. That's all. It was more about them then being for the team. Some fans sit back and go "Well...that sucks...but he's a (Insert team here) now, might as well root for him." Others just hammer the point home about how it's the worst decision ever and how the team will forever pay for making such a decision. Les has more riding on this decision than many of the fans. You'd think people could give it 10 games before calling it a failure. This is why my approach to big decisions like this is always "Eh, We'll see how this goes."
Yeah, I get your point and optimism, I have been a Houston Rockets fan since when I was a kid, and as I get older I questioned that blind loyalty as ignorance some times. I find it hard to envision Myself rooting for another team. I honestly do not know what will happen, but I have come to a realization after all those years as to why I should invest Myself into something beyond My control, especially if it does not reflect My beliefs as to how the organization should be run. Not saying I Am not going to be a Rockets fan, I do not know what is going to happen, but I honestly would feel foolish and stupid rooting this time.
sometimes a loved one (houston rockets) needs to get much worse first (with chemo/radiation/surgery) in order to eradicate the cancer (les alexander) and finally get back to normal
The optimist in me says you're right and we never know what will happen. The inquisitivist in me is anxious to get to the roster turnover because this current group is not championship capable even if Red Auerbach was the coach and Phil Jackson and Pat Riley were his lead assistants. I'm already wondering what shooters, athletes, and other creators/handlers we are going to bring in that could make the roster championship capable. The realist in me is telling me to punch a hole in the wall because it is now obvious that we have a rogue owner with only a surface understanding of the game who now calls the basketball shots and ignores the guys he pays to do that job. And no matter how good of a roster we assemble we will be at best a second round exit because of a lack of playing a cohesive, strategic game that ties both ends of the floor together which is a critical element to championship basketball. Very disappointed in Less (and this is now the right spelling of his name) right now. He told us he wanted to win. His actions here have proven he wants a show more than he wants to win a championship.
Didn't hear anything about it being finalised yet - so don't think it is as of yet. We are probably gonna find out more throughout the day. Hopefully they will also announce who the rest of the coaching staff are.
Does this organization even want to win? Hiring Mike D'Antoni. Are you kidding me? This is a sad day for rockets fans.

Guys this isn't likely to cause Dwight not to opt in. Dwight has been advised by his people to opt in to his deal for next season. He'll be overriding his own advisors if he opts out. So if he opts in we will continue to watch the circus that has become our franchise for the next several months.
