Tillman puts the Big 12 and UT on blast. Yikes. http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...-makes-strong-case-for-houston-in-the-big-12/
Maybe Herman's joint venture with A&M is a power play to gain some favoritism and get UH into an expanded SEC? These comments from Fertitta sound like he knows that B12 invite is a longshot or not happening at all. I'd prefer P12, AAC, SEC or B10 over B12 at this point.
Former Spurs owner: The Big 12 should add Houston; San Antonio was 'this close' to getting the Raiders
If Fertitta understands what TCU did on their part to get in, why isn't he holding UH to that same standard? Yes UH has come a long way and had a great year, but have they shown the consistency to be considered an "automatic?" Has UH been that much more consistent than BYU and Cincinnati to be disappointed that they are even being considered? IMO, it's statements like this that undermine his argument. Don't think even the conference has completed projections for expansion yet Fertitta is already making excuses for being left out? Assuming he is a bottom line type of guy, Fertitta sure didn't make mention of it or at least the article didn't quote it.
As far as consistency goes, I think UH has done the legwork there. They have one of the top 5 winningest non-p5 programs over the last 10 years. UCF = 73-56 ECU = 75-55 NIU = 87-48 UH = 88-44 UC = 90-40 BYU = 93-32 Boise = 113-19 Not as winning as TCU was in their run up the Big 12, but hey, if expansion is happening, this is what you have to chose from. It sounds like he's trying to set the narrative. We're not being left out because of economics or markets or networks or your mom or whatever. We're being left out because they're afraid that 1976 might repeat itself, where UH kicks in the door to the good old boys club and steals all their trophies/recruits. UH seemed to vanish from the Big 12 radar quickly, and without explanation. Then all the sudden UConn popped up. A school that no one had targeted or wanted as part of a New Big 12 in the 5+ years of discussion about expansion to this point. Now we hear that UT and two fellow Texas schools (at the obvious behest of UT) are blocking "certain" expansion pathways. Those pathways undoubtedly run through East Texas. The conference likely has completed its research for expansion. All that is left is the meetings and handshakes. Fertitta is playing the only card he really has left at this point.
Definitely. But this in itself shows that UH is not an "absolute." Obviously harping on his words more than anything else. What about the recent change of heart by Boren? You can blame Texas all you want but can't tell me that the OU BOR was completely strong armed where they would tell their own President to sit down and shut up. And what are the results of that research? If those results were favorable to UH, why would Fertitta only be left with one card to play with? Seems like an argument with numbers to support it would be much more beneficial than the "Texas is scared" tactic. No need to set a narrative when facts can do your talking. Edit: I'll move over to the Expansion thread to not completely derail this one.

If a big job does open up and come after Tom Herman, and he decides to leave for the big job/money, would Briles be an option to come back?
Safe to take Baylor off that list. He's too smart for that. He's actually on the phone with their recruits as we speak.
Cougars be like "oh good Briles is toast at Baylor".... ...then realize Herman might jilt them for Baylor just like Briles did
Yes, I'm sure Tom is just itching to jump into that **** storm. At least he'll get some Dr Pepper museum tickets out of it.
Briles, Sumlin, levine, Herman....3 out of 4 ain't bad, we're in Htown, the University has changed, proud alumni, not the beta UH grads of the past...we'll be fine with or without Herman
