His k rate is a little lower than normal (21.7%), but his walk rate is also down. His BABIP is really low so the reason such a high % of his hits are HR is just bad luck on the balls that don't leave the park. He's still young. He very well could still end up as a 30 HR/850 OPS guy in the majors. But a team will have to give him another 300 AB run in the majors and I just don't see Houston doing that. I just hope they end up getting good value out of him if they trade him.

He looks like a juiced up Bonds without the juice. He is too bulked up and has lost the fluidity in his movement and swing. I think if he lost 30 lbs doing lots of cardio and stretching in his training he may be able to regain what he had in his youth. He tried to become a bulked up Bonds instead of a Fred Mcgriff like some thought he had the potential of becoming. He is still fairly young. I would suggest his playing weight be 210-220 not 250.

Ridiculous he hits lead off in front of Alex Bregman and can't get a hit. Meanwhile every else in the lineup except Teoscar Hernandez gets a hit.

If Bregman was even semi-annoyed Moran got the call ahead of him, he's clearly got to be thinking "damn I'm a way better ballplayer than Carlos Gomez".

Some say he bulked up... some just say he got fat/out of shape.

Most of the time when players "add muscle", its really the latter. I agree he needs to slim down. Hitting them far was never the problem... making any sort of contact was.

Apparently it did, according to him.

(apologies if I'm misremembering his quote.)

Nah, we don't want Kyle Tucker getting pissed he's not in the Show while Gomez is.

Joe Musgrove is taking on Oklahoma City and a rehabbing Hyun-Jin Ryu right now.

Whatever happened to Ankiel on the mound has happened to Gomez in the box. Crazy how inept he is.

Musgrove and Paulino have taken big steps forward. Both guys should easily be in the back half of most Top 100 lists. Brady Rodgers and Cy Sneed have been overshadowed but both guys have progressed and look like really nice future MLB BoR SP.

Put the Velasquez / Giles deal in context.

Paulino was a PTBNL in the Jose Veras trade -- Veras gave the Tigers all of 20 decent innings with a 3.20 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.

Musgrove was acquired with a slew of other prospects (including a bunch of future major leaguers, Asher Woj, Carlos Perez, and David Rollins) in exchange for a couple years of a below average starter in JA Happy, and a decent half season from Brandon Lyon.
