I actually thought that was a pretty interesting origin. Hopefully they will reveal more (like why the White Walkers turned on their makers). Overall this was one of the best episodes I remember watching. Ending was pretty sad. RIP Hold the Door
So, I won't even get into the whole time traveling/Hodor/warging thing as quite a few of us seem confused by it. However, I'm curious about the motivation of the Knight's King going after Bran. Can someone explain that? As well as the whole "marking" thing.
If you're looking for an explanation from a book reader, It's all uncharted territory. We know nothing, as most were hoping for white walker history/explanations in Winds of Winter (btw, I loved how they dropped "winds of winter" during that theatre performance Arya was watching).
Wondering how long GRRM had that as the intention for Hodor. If the show runners choose this episode as their Emmy bid go ahead and lock it up. Have a hard time remembering something explained in such devastating, sudden and effective fashion. Hoping Sansa knows LF is playing her. Also don't get the Faceless Mans intent. Are they just assassins for hire?
Inside look of the cave battle and episode 5: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hfXP1RHLLx4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X9Jsj9V_Aqg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Wondering the same. All mystical and **** about life and death but then they just go and kill if someone pays them?
Not only that, but Hodor was scared when it started and Bran took control of him to save himself. In doing so he messed up his brain in the past, turning him into the guy that would end up being his personal wheel chair/body guard.... which culminates in him being forced by Bran in the present to hold the door while terrified and being torn apart. Brutal stuff.
They're all about death. In their minds life is suffering and giving death is a gift. They have fountain in their temple for people to kill themselves painlessly if they take a drink of it.
Haven't read spoiler text but if they're going full predestination paradox, he could be the old man. I don't see the reason why other than for shock value and to bookend some philosophical hand wringing to make sense of all the violence and chaos of that world. Can you tell how much higher up by measuring who has the saggiest boobs or balls? #seencantbeunseen
I mean he's a kid, he would have been expected to make that mistake. If I was his age, had that power (also couldn't walk), and didn't realize that could happen I'd likely do it too. Doesn't release him from guilt, like I said -- doucheeee.
Well if he really does turn out to be the old crow, pretty douche move not telling himself what's to come.
At the end when the wars are over and everything and everyone is happy and safe. Perhaps the redheaded witch and the old crow can have a sex scene. Go out with a real bang.
Yes they are assassins for hire... they are very expensive... Hodor was the plan of GRRM, confirmed by producers....
Pet theory is the faceless god is money... since coins have many faces... you also have the iron bank in Bravos... the Bravosi seem to care the most about money in this regard.... They believe death is a gift obviously... or at least they say they do. What is know is that the order is religious in manner... but it's pretty easy for the higher ups to be only concerned about the profit and be playing the newer people.
But didn't Doc said something to the affect that one should not come into contact with oneself in the future/past because it will unravel the fabric of time and space? #MartyMcFly
Right, but didn't they talk of the Many Faced God choosing who dies? And then they just go and fulfill a gun for hire contract? Doesn't make too much sense.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I always thought there was something more spiritual to the process. Now it sounds like they are just common hitmen, and if that's the case, why are they putting Arya through so much crap and why is she even interested in doing it?
