I think we all are tired of Gomez and ready for him to be gone But when you make definitive comments about how he affects his teammates, you would have to be in the clubhouse and around them everyday to really know that. So yea, you might get sick of remarks, but those are things you just don't know by watching tv (or seeing scores on the cangreApp) He certainly affects the team negativity with his play though
though you are what the record says you are, you can't honestly look at the red sox series and believe we're one of the worst. better managerial decisions and gomez, two losses. there is a lot of fight in this team.
This is mainly my point and I truly believe he has a bad affect on his teammates overall. Sometimes certain additions to a team can throw chemistry off. Like I said feel free to disagree with my observations. All I know is since he's been on this team, the team has steadily gone down. If he is going to continue to be on the team, it would be good to bench him for a significant amount of time and see how the team plays then. He is serving no real purpose right now. They made similar moves with other players serving no real purpose (Tucker and Marisnick being sent down this year, Kratz being released, etc.) When certain players continue to get playing time and they are basically worthless while others get demoted and released, especially when they are not core players, hell yeah it can affect the clubhouse and animosity can begin to build.
You can't go with this line of thinking, though. Yes, they already have 3 homegrown all-star caliber players. That information doesn't influence whether or not future homegrown players are going to be successful or not. All we know is that prospects are more likely to be unsuccessful than successful at the ML level, generally. I'd say they have a great headstart at being a team that bucks the trend precisely *because* they already have 3 homegrown all-star caliber players.
I'm not excluding the possibility of more homegrown talent making an impact.... but that cannot simply be the only strategy because the odds of that working out are extremely low. All teams have to supplement/trade for established vets... especially the most successful teams with the most successful farm systems. The Astros are no different... and they have attempted to do just that with last year's and the off-season's trades. My premise is that they shouldn't stop doing that, simply because those trades haven't worked out (yet). Everybody wants them to not be cheap... yet they're advocating for a lineup of all cheap/club controlled players, and longing for the cheap players they let go. Yes, they do have 3 homegrown stars... each acquired by a different regime and each with very different circumstances (a 16 year old undrafted international signee, a 23 year old 4 year college player, and a 18 year old #1 overall pick phenom). The odds that the Astros have all 3 of them controlled, in their primes, are already extremely unlikely and the franchise is very fortunate (and it cannot simply be attributed all to Luhnow). There's always some good fortune involved in any successful franchise... and the Astros are currently experiencing it with their 1-3. Building around those three should be paramount... and like you said, just because those 3 happened to come from this farm system, shouldn't be the expected norm for all future graduates (because its not).
Yeah I think we're on the same page. And the above is the toughest part to keep hearing from others. The complainers want every single thing to be right--otherwise, they'll point to the lack of FAs, the lack of callups, or the lack of former prospects who went elsewhere. Unfortunately, baseball is both streaky and imperfect when it comes to predicting success. Every team has to live with those issues, and expecting every roster move to be perfect is a guaranteed way to be disappointed.
If you're sick of responses like that, then don't post garbage about things you know literally nothing about. We know his on-field play sucks and there's plenty to criticize there. But you know nothing about his influence in the locker room, so posting as though you do just tells the rest of us that you just make things up to fit whatever reality you want to believe. If you post like that, there's no reason to assume any of your other posts have value either.
Some arms can do it year after year... some can't. Control has been more of an issue than just plain "stuff" though.
I know Keuchel said some interesting comments about players not taking the game seriously enough and a lot of people assumed he was talking about Gomez. Keuchel can't really talk about anybody though with the season he's having. Anyway, people post their observations, opinions, etc. on here because that's what is is for. Whether you think it's garbage or doesn't have value I couldn't really care less. I'm sure others think the same of several of your post over the years as well but you're entitled to your opinions too like everyone else on the board is.
That's fine But don't tell people you are tired of their responses then, if you post on stuff you know nothing about there will be some who post against that Bottom line is Gomez sucks as a player right now, if he was hitting .279 with power no one would care about the rest of his stuff And yea Keuchel needs to perform or shut up, preferably perform
I'm not sick of posters disagreeing with me, people can disagree on things that's fine. It's the condescending, authoritative stance of, "How dare you post on that? What do you know?" To me this type of condescending stance it appears is really pronounced here in the Astros section for some reason when people make opinions about the team. Whatever.
You're batting a thousand today, keep it up. You give an opinion in a forum? Wtf are you thinking? I think it pisses off alot of the homers who have backed this clown show from the get go only to have people's "opinions" prove themselves correct over and over again.
If they don't go 7-3 or better over their next 10, I think Luhnkw shifts into sell mode.
