You're so allergic to all this recent "drama queening" that you started your own thread to whine about whiner's. Ok.
I think the problem isn't D'Antoni's ability to coach offense. But that typically a team resembles the personality of its head coach and/or top player. I don't want the Rockets team to resemble Harden or D'Antonio. I want them to resemble JVG, or Vogel, or Steve Clifford (I know, not available), or someone with a defensive mindset that installs discipline on the team. Look at Charlotte, a good defensive team with Jefferson, Hawes, Kaminsky, Zeller the primary frontcourt and Kemba Walker logging 35min a night at PG. You can play above average defense with the right mentality, scheme, and discipline, even without athletic or good defensive players.
OK, I am having a hard time with this line of thought. And it seems to be everywhere on this BBS - the fact that pairing MDA with a defensive specialist assistant will not only work but be a successful combination. Specifically, what is the point of hiring MDA when going in, they have to compensate for his serious shortcomings on one side of the ball - the very side that proved to be their undoing this past season. How does this make him the "right" man for the job? I simply fail to see how that type of arrangement is going to work any better than it did the last time around with McHale. As I see it, MDA is going to want to remake the roster with players to suit his offensive philosophy which would not be the type of players necessary to raise this team's dismal defensive standing. So, again, how is this supposed to work?
More important than the specifics of defense or offense, the Rockets need to develop a whole team personality of taking no prisoners when they are ahead and never give up when trailing. In a nutshell, acquire and develop bb ballers. Unfortunately, to achieve that goal, usually it requires many of mediocre play if not outright losing, something that Les does not want to endure. The other path in rebuilding is to acquire superstar players in their prime, a dicey proposition, quite familiar to us.
Easy to call people pu$$ies hiding behind a computer. For the record, I agree with everything you stated in your first post, as there is most definitely NO reason for people to be freaking out over this. Calling people "p*****s" (IMO) was uncalled for.
Well of course fans will panic when the team they love are so dysfunctional. Telling folks they're looking for an experienced head coach but yet they are interviewing assistant coaches who has no head coaching experience. Man hire someone already. Shouldn't take this darn long.
BWHAHAHA no sir not everyone. I wake up to a beautiful wife and wonderful children. Say my thanks to the Lord. Then check what's going on with my team.
I guess it depends on how you actually view the Rocket's defensive issues. The Rockets have been 18th, 13th, 10th, and 20th respectively each season since acquiring Harden. I just don't see some systemic defensive issue that have grown over time but an issue that went beyond defensive issues, an outlier of a season. For me it's a perception vs reality issue as the Rockets were trending better defensively until everything fell apart this year. So I'm not in the camp that only a defensive minded coach can fix the Rockets as the Rockets went from 18th to 10th in defensive efficiency under McHale before everything fell apart.
I don't mind D'Antoni - he was straddled with some poor talent after leaving Phoenix, he would be a huge upgrade over McHale & JBB - would have preferred JVG, but D'Antoni is not a bad choice. As for defense, - I believe that issue was more one of chemistry than system....once a new coach comes in the team can rally around Harden and they will be fine, on both ends....they will have ONE COHESIVE identity instead of two competing ones. Seriously, I'm just trying to have fun with so many people being bent out of shape about something so out of their control. I'm not actually trying to be mean-spirited about it. Re-read my messages and imagine little smiley faces after every sentence. <BR>
I am just curious what players will we be able to get and how long will it take to get them to fit D'Antoni method of play. So we can praise or condemn D'Antoni coaching? Or will we be criticizing the players lack of effort? I want to see the players buy into it. Do not want to see the lack of effort like last year, that was horrendous hard to watch!
