In theory, buy in is important. But in this case, the Rockets defense was good the season prior... when Sampson was the Defensive Assistant. When Sampson left to take the UH job, the defensive Assistant job went to JBB. And the Rockets defense declined... But the point was/is... being a team's Defensive Assistant didn't mean much (in the case of JBB).
i honestly at this point prefer MDA over silas. Silas never played professionally, only the son of a former NBA coach. This has JB written all over it, no players will respect him, Harden will certainly tune him out and say "You never even played the game dawg".
Remember this is what eventually led to Rick Adelman leaving the Rockets? Morey wanted to select some assistants for Adelman, including Finch, but Adelman wanted to go with his own crew exclusively, including Bob Turner as head coach.
"You don't get to be runningback just because your Dad was. We fought a whole war with England over that." - Hank Hill
In this case we should go with Silas as the inknown commodity. The devil we don't know is better than the devil we know.

Can someone explain the appeal of Silas? I'm not knocking him I just know almost nothing about his coaching character or ability. He doesn't seem like he's regarded as one of the top assistants in the league ( he doesn't get a single reference in the GM surveys from 2015 or 2016 http://www.nba.com/news/features/john_schuhmann/nba-com-2015-16-gm-survey/). Please don't say he's well liked by players. I'm tired of the player friendly crap.
