No. He's referencing the past when the Rox interviewed Sampson for the HC job and ended up offering him lead assistant job.
I have absolutely zero opinion of Silas. He's a total blank slate for me. Not sure if that is exciting or scary.
I don't think it's fair to judge J.B. on this year. He was made head coach during the season. He didn't come in as a fresh face and run his own training camp, etc. I don't think it's fair to judge him on this year.
Apparently, Silas was responsible for perimeter players and defense under Don Nelson at Golden State. And we all remember Golden State as a defensive juggernaut. In none of his other assistant coaching assigments was he mentioned as the defensive coach (though this article suggests he was responsible for defense at Charlotte: http://saltcityhoops.com/coach-d-finding-the-next-great-jazz-coach-among-nba-assistants/
A Bobcats assistant...why can't we go after a GSW or SAS assistant? One that they find particularly valuable. If we can't help ourselves at all, then why not at least hurt the other top teams in the NBA a bit?
btw, being the "Defensive Assistant" might not mean all that much... since JBB was the Rocket's Defensive Assistant prior to getting promoted to the interim HC position.
Nepotism would be if Paul Silas was the owner and Stephen Silas was the coach, this is just a hire. Everyone has a dad, his just happened to have been a basketball coach
It's all about having your players buy into the system. Defense was good to very good the last two seasons, until it everything went to hell this year
I don't like this emphasis that Les seems to put on the interviews. Being a big talker has nothing to do with basketball IQ. Too many times people confuse eloquence with intelligence, by that measure politicians should be regarded as more intelligent than physicists. What a foolish way to evaluate someone's talent, don't get bewitched by words and actually look at their body of work, old man.
I can't buy into the idea that Harden would respect this guy. Too young. I also don't know if I like him as lead assistant. This staff needs strong veteran people on it that Harden is going to respect if we have any chance.
He was never going to sign here. He got offered president of basketball operations role. That wasn't happening in Houston no matter what.
And on top of that, he had to deal with Dwight Howard getting his panties all in a knot a couple of times a week. <BR>
