Can confirm Jeff Van Gundy is no longer a candidate for #Rockets head coaching position. His comments below. @KPRC2 https://t.co/P3nRog8t6q
This goes to show you how unreliable sources are sometimes. It was being reported that JVG was a "finalist" and may be the "front runner" for head coach. Turns out that not only was he not the front-runner, but he was not even interviewed. In fact, he wasn't even contacted by the Rockets at all.
Me either Most fans are casual basketball fans who base their player/coach opinions on that persons personality. JVG is very likable, and humorous, does not mean he's the best coach here. He's a defensive coach who wants to slow the game down to the least possessions. That won't work today's game. D'Antoni is the opposite. He's all offense with no defense. The question is can he make his offense work without Steve Nash. Neither are good candidates for this job
They didn't even give him an interview? Fine. they don't want JVG; i can get over that. But D'Antoni?
I don't know if JVG would have or wouldn't have been the right choice. But I feel pretty f***ing confident that D'Antoni isn't.

It's about Barkley. JVG wanted this job. I told you all that at the beginning of the offseason. JVG wanted to be the next coach of the Rockets. He is very disappointed that he's not going to get the gig. This is a job he has wanted to get back for at least two years. All class. Great guy.
I've never had anything against Les as an owner, but wow... I'm surprised he let his ego get in the way of this one. Was JVG the perfect candidate? I dont know. But to not even give him an opportunity to meet face to face is pretty cowardly. And among all of the candidates, he's going after MDA? MDA had 4 good seasons in PHX. Outside of that, the most victories in a season he's led his team to is 42 (with Kobe still putting up 27+/game). JVG was able to get 45 wins with a STEVE freakin FRANCIS led team! MDA may be the "leading candidate" right now, but I'm really hoping another candidate emerges out of nowhere.
Yep, I heard this rumbling yesterday. It's good to have inside sources and connections. I can confirm that this is indeed true and that Jeff was very interested in a reunion.
Someone please drive over to Les's house and beat the **** out of him. What an absolute moron. We need a complete franchise overhaul. New owner, new coaches, new GM, new players. **** that cheapskate. ****ing coward.
