Curious... did the person who upset the shopper in this story molest her, or even look at her or anyone else while they were changing in the dressing room? Or did the person simply try on the clothes behind a closed door? I have been to many stores that didn't have mens's and women's dressing rooms... but instead, had dressing rooms. I guess the shopper in the story would have really freaked.
These are people trying to intentionally make a seen and undermine the law in bad faith. They are intentionally trying to create controversy. Not act as a sexual predator. There have been 0 instances of a sexual predator using such laws or access to do their thing. The need for legislation is there because there have been cases where transgender men have been discriminated against or harassed - so the law is there to prevent that. The only reason there is a need for separate men's and women's bathroom is for what? So men can have urinals? Considering how sloppy men can be in their aim, it's more of a benefit for women. If you didn't have urinals you wouldn't need to have separate bathrooms. Bathrooms have stalls which already provide enough privacy. I would think that people would have a bigger issue with Pedophiles being able to use a bathroom with a kid in it more than anything else.
You're so silly. We need legislation because TG's are being harassed. You should know legislation will stop this harassment before the ink is dried on the signature of the legislation. The problem is that the legislation would have unintended consequences. Establishing a right for anyone to use whatever restroom or locker room they choose no matter what sex they are is simply a bad idea. Legislation simply isn't the answer here and honestly, it's not really even a problem to begin with. The ONLY reason we're hearing about this is because gay marriage was legalized and LGBT groups need another issue to champion to keep their funding and this was the best they could come up with to replace what was a legitimate civil rights cause. Without the illusion of a just cause, those groups lose money and those who make their money that way are out of a job. They don't want to be out of a job so they trumped up this bathroom nonsense and people like you bought in.
Anything can have unintended consequences if not drafted well. It's not like these law haven't been passed before. These are all excuses and looking for weird reasons to justify your excuses.
The only reason I mention this is because I find this whole topic idiotic. Did I not say to decriminalize bathroom use?? Perhaps you should read peoples thoughts before blindly going on a rant. This does not need to be legislated. As others mentioned, it creates more problems than it solves (which is nearly none). Just like NC's HB2. There isn't a way to draft the law that wouldn't have those unintended consequences. Once you say that anyone can use any facility they feel like, you can't stop people from abusing that system. You'd essentially be creating a problem in an effort to solve a non-problem....pretty much what the government is best at. Given that this isn't an actual problem, it's best to do nothing. No legislation one way or the other and let it continue not being a real problem.
Why does the GOP get so inflamed over non-issue issues? Why do they leave real big issues unaddressed? ask yourself and report.

I do not see what the problem of gener neutral bathrooms is? We have them at the university I work at and in thè student houses in my town. And I have not heard of any problems. So specifically what are the problems you expect when gender-neutral neutral bathrooms are introducés?
So, in your mind, women are going to be fine with men in the restroom and locker room with them? That's just not a thought well grounded in reality. Sure, some may not mind, but a whole lot will. There's just no reason to cause a problem trying to "solve" a non-problem. Hopefully the LGBT groups find a more legitimate cause to champion in order to get their funding so this issue is dropped.
lol at Democrats decrying the use of "wedge issues!" If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. Personally I think this is a stupid issue that both sides should have left alone. Trans people have been using the restrooms without any issue before, had we not brought this up, they would continue to do so with virtually no issue. But with Charlotte's ordinance, the state reaction, then Obama's reaction, it's being blown out of proportion. If a trans woman went into a woman's bathroom, what would he/she see? Do women walk around naked in the bathroom? Doubt it. So they would go to a private stall. If it was a trans man in a men's bathroom, he/she would STILL have to go to a private stall because he/she doesn't have the equipment necessary to use the urinal. Perhaps urinals are discriminatory, while we're at it. Point being, real trans people aren't the problem. Most of them use the bathroom with no discussion. My guess is those that get called out on it are the ones that clearly look manly. The real issue, and people want to dismiss this but it's true, the real issue is when you don't have a way to legally define a trans person, and you leave it up to "how they feel," how do you legally prosecute those who take advantage of the ordinance? You don't have to dress a certain way. You just have to "feel" a certain way. Seems like both sides are unenforceable. Would be better to just leave it alone, IMO.
I'm not sure why you think this argument is a winner. The unregulated bathroom would have been best. But then we had schools telling students which bathroom they were allowed to use. We had busybodies telling strangers they met in bathrooms which bathroom they were allowed to use. And, we had North Carolina passing a law about which bathroom we're allowed to use. All it has been on the liberal side is an admonition against telling other people what bathroom they're allowed to use. If you really want to decriminalize bathroom use, you should be supporting gender self-identification.
Not really true. There really wasn't a problem at all, but once the gay marriage issue was settled LGBT groups needed a new cause to generate donations so they started pushing for laws that would essentially make all single sex facilities available to anyone no a whim. Once those laws started being pushed and even passed, people pushed back against it because it is really stupid legislation and the LGBT groups got the opposition they were seeking out. This is an illegitimate issue pushed by mindless fools who don't realize they are just being the puppets of LGBT groups trying to keep their donations up so that they can stay in business.
Im not going to finger point either way. The pro TG crowd is making this a bigger deal than it really is and the anti-TG crowd is making it more difficult than it needs to be. I dont agree with the NC law simply because I do not believe in legislating the issue. Neither side are making legitimate arguments. The fact remains TG's are going to be harassed more with legislation, not less. Women are simply not going to be pro-TG because of some ridiculous legislation. It is seriously ridiculous that we are arguing over a place to piss and crap. The occurrences that this is an issue is so small. Instead of fighting over bathroom rights and peeping toms and other silly nonsense, explain to me how we should resolve the following, besides "deal with it": -Womens discomfort with a penis in their communal shower -Incarceration of those who identify with TG's -We are adults. We can be held responsible. With legislation, how are you going to deal with middle and high school boys harassing females by claiming to be TG? decriminalizing facility use and leaving it to the custodians of the facilities is the most fair approach. Aside from incarceration, I can't think of any government facilities that are used outside of crapping and pissing. Let the states decide if they want to make their restrooms unisex friendly. Let the private (regardless if they are government funded) decide. How exactly is this proposal not a fair compromise? I would be more sympathetic towards TG's and the PC bro crowd if they were willing to compromise, however they are no more compromising than the extreme right leaning.
