This has been a weird season. It's like the murder case was a tool just to get the gang (good and bad guys) back together, and to get a sex scene with Eliza Dushku. Anyways, looks like the last episode will be action packed. Looking forward to it.
I've been meaning to post an update in this thread. I've enjoyed the season, but it seems like the murder was almost put there to set up the scene between Hood and Brock last week. Not sure how they're going to end it, but here's my guess: Hood and Carrie convince Brock to wage an all out war against Procter, allowing revenge, and a chance for Brock to become the sheriff free and clear. In the end, Procter ends up dead....but so does Brock, allowing Hood and Carrie to ride off in the sunset. Also, Bunker will have the show down with his brother and kill him. Great, great show. Can't believe its almost over, but excited for the last episode.
I will be sad to see this show end but this season has been a pretty big misstep, in my opinion. The whole mess with the satanic cult was totally unnecessary and took away from what should have been a strict conflict between Hood and his crew, Proctor (and his crew...pretty much Burton) and the White Brotherhood. The ending of the satanic cult wasn't even that satisfying. I wanted to see Brock and Hood just flat out slaughtering those people. Instead we get Brock body slam some topless skinny white chick and a small amount of brawling followed by the eventual execution (which was poorly edited, I feel). Also, why pan away on the Burton vs the White Brotherhood guys!? That irritated me. I feel like maybe this show had its budget cut this season and so they had to make tough decisions on how to spend the money. Quality has suffered as a result. Everything that involved Job has been top notch (LOVED his revenge on the rival hacker). Most everything with Carrie has been good. I feel myself having Sugar withdrawal. He needs more to do. I could have used more Bunker and his brother this season too. The scene of Calvin walking through his office, bare-chested covered in blood was a really cool scene. All in all, this show was incredible and so much better than I ever would have expected, but I'm kind of glad it's ending if this season is an indication of what they have been budgeted and what ideas they had left to run with. I still feel like seasons 2 and 3 were absolute masterpieces of television.
The Eliza sex scene was totally lame. They shouldn't have even gone there. She obviously is never going to put the twins on display. My guess is the twins are defective somehow (probably showing scars from augmentation surgery). The whole scene was just one big cover-up. What was the story of those bumps on the satanic leader's head? Those things were gnarly!
Just cosmetic surgery to look like he had devil horns. Stupid, cliche satanic cult stuff. We didn't get to see the Dushku twins, but we got a nice view of the Dushkuboose...even though it was nothing special I was appreciative. Also, protip to any aspiring Satan worshipers out there: shaving your eyebrows doesn't make you look sinister or intimidating. It makes you look ridiculous.
Yeah, after what we saw the last few seasons, this one seems so off. Instead of playing up the characters already there, they randomly introduced a satanic serial killer as the bad guy??? It should have been the crew vs proctor vs the white power group and that is it. I loved last season. It does not even feel like a series finale.
The budget was cut this year, so that's why the action sequences have been sparse and mainly quick brawls. Plus, Antony Starr told the producers how physically taxing the choreography training is so they cut down the visceral hand-to-hand fights. Everyone has unanimously agreed that the Satanic cult was a large waste of time and didn't serve much for the core story between the main characters. There's also the disappointment that Rebecca's death meant nothing besides being a random victim, but maybe they'll mention a relationship with the Satanists but I doubt it. With so much time spent on Hood's and Rebecca's flashbacks, she wasn't mentioned at all in last week's Satanist conclusion. With one more episode left, there are way too many plot lines to tie up. There was no need to introduce the Cartel with the Senator considering the business setup with the Brotherhood was enough to include Bunker and Calvin. Job's arc has been handled well, but Sugar has been underused and mainly on the fringes along with Deva. Deputy Cruz was pointless, too, other than one cat fight, a good one at least.
One of the best shows I've ever seen. Hands down. I'm satisfied with the bow tie ending even if the last season was the weakest out of all of them.
Did you stay till the end credits when the cast and crew bid farewell? Not gonna lie, got teary eyed for a bit. The cast seems to like working together and very genuine. I agree, season 4 was not the strongest but I do love the send off.
Yep...tough to watch the farewell. So many great characters with great actors playing them and they seemed to genuinely care for one another. I don't think any of them could have asked for a better work environment. Definitely sad too see them signing off. They were all so great. Terrific cast and casting.
Loved the series. Couldn't have asked for more. (Except to see Procter's fate) Still weird to see Hood talk Australian.
Great series. Might be the best series finale I have ever seen. So many shows seem to fall on their face when trying to close things off, but I thought they did this perfectly. Man, I'm going to miss Bunker.
Ending was as satisfying as it could be. I think the main flaw of this season was the Satanist cult. They shouldn't have even been introduced, and more time should've been spent on the core characters's stories. With that said, I'm sad to see this series end. It was a good farewell, with Job having the best line. I kept waiting for them to reveal Hood's real identity, but they kept it a secret.
Well, just read the rumor. It looked more like just some comments from the "Banshee" creator about how it would be interesting. But, he also said taking a supporting character that worked in one series and making them the focal point in another is high risk and doesn't necessarily work out. It seemed doubtful. I would say if they could do a spin-off like this...then it would be reasonable to bring Hood back into the fold as well. And, potentially one or two others...like Carrie (Ana)...at least at certain points in the new series. But, obviously, there would be some new characters developed around Job. I would say if it did get off the ground and they had the same casting/creative people involved...then it would be in good hands...just like "Better Call Saul" was in good hands after "Breaking Bad". It does feel kind of weird they ended this after season 4 given its popularity. The creator did say they could have gone 5 seasons. He said they weren't necessarily out of ideas versus thinking they couldn't keep up the level of intensity like the first 3 seasons and two seasons would be stretching out what ideas they did have. In other words, they ran out of ideas that could fill out two seasons. lol. It's too bad. It feels like an opportunity missed. Looking back...the satanic cult wasn't necessarily a bad idea because...in the end...they didn't have anything to do with main plot point this season. They were no different than having the neo-Nazi skinheads as part of the story. The simple fact is Banshee is a f-ed up place where f-ed up things happen. There's a lot of seedy characters to go around there. I think there was some opportunities there to have more stories born out of the dealings with the skinheads. It would be no different than the stories born out of the Native Americans. They barely touched that skinheads story arch except through the skinhead turned cop. I just think Cinemax bailed on this show too early and they are going to have a hard time finding a suitable show to replace it imo. It didn't necessarily feel played out. Maybe it needed some new ideas from new writers, though?
The Satanists were necessary for a few small reasons. 1. They enabled Hood and Brock to have the conversation where Brock realized that Hood was just a career criminal who was masquerading as a sheriff. This, in turn, made Brock realize that the nice guy sometimes finishes last, and it's okay to stray from the rules a bit. That, in turn, allowed him to rid Banshee of a decent amount of the crime plaguing the city (looking the other way on the Bunker thing...even though he didn't need to...which is a whole other story I will get into, as well as blowing up Procter's drugs), and even letting Hood walk out of his station. 2. It brought Veronica into the fold, which, in turn, finally made Hood realize he needed to disappear. He realized the FBI was on to him. They'd start asking questions. It was not the first time the FBI was close to him, remember. This is a big reason he finally left. There's probably a few other reasons it was included, but at the very least, the final episode made the Cult make sense. The Bunker thing... It's funny in the last episode, the scene with him and Brock after he kills Calvin. Bunker, the reformed neo-nazi, is telling the truth to the squeaky clean (supposed) sheriff, but the sheriff doesn't believe him. In the grand scheme of things, Bunker is the one character (my favorite character) that represents hope, amidst all of the evil and despair in the show. He's essentially the only straight shooter of the whole cast, even though he quite possibly comes from the seediest background. Love that. As far as a spinoff... If I were to have a spin off, this is how I would do it. It'd be perfect: Since we still don't know Hood's real identity, why not do a spin off of him in the city that he settles down in? Sure he'd need Job to fix his identity. And I'm sure he'd run into issues where he'd need him more. Maybe he'd even stop back by Banshee once or twice. You could have him maybe settling into the town when Dava lives after college, or even during college. It would make perfect sense, and it would follow the story line perfectly. It would be brilliant. Say after college, Dava gets into some hot water. All of a sudden here's Hood (new identity) to rescue her. This would enable you to still cast Carrie and Job. Would that be the first spin off that still successfully features the same main character? Honest question. I'm not that brushed up on spin offs.
