Probably because they haven't yet told the person that's going to have to be removed from the 40-man and don't want to announce it before that happens. Might be working on a trade, too, before making it official.

Marisnick looks like another example of the AAAA level player Houston is famous for developing. I just don't see it happening here for him, but I'm sure he'll be good for someone else one day!

As for Moran, it seems like a desperation call up, but at this point why not? Desperate times and all. I'm not sure the timing was ideal, but they can't stay with the status quo forever either. Something's got to give with this group.

Kratz was DFA'd, so Moran took his spot on the 40 man roster.

I imagine Marisnick would be the guy to go. Seriously doubt Marwin goes to the DL.

He was never destined to be any sort of fixture or potential all-star. Anybody who had glimmers of those expectations were fooling themselves.

He's got the speed and defensive ability to be an everyday player, which is pretty much his ceiling at this point... but he HAS to hit at least at a replacement player level to be warranted that opportunity.

    Kratz's spot went to Kemp.

Even if we option Marisnick, we still need to take someone off the 40 man.

I'm not sure why nobody has considered we might demote a pitcher. We currently have a 6 man rotation, plus Feldman as a long guy/spot starter.

I think Devenski could go down.

Was Kemp not on the 40 man?

Only pitcher they could really demote is Feliz (again). And despite having all those starters + Feldman, its the weakest aspect of this team, and they need as many pitchers as possible right now.

You are correct, for some reason I was thinking Kemp was already on the 40 man.

There's no obvious candidate, although I agree 5 CF on this roster doesn't make any sense. However, if they really have given up on Gomez then it might be best to let Marisnick and Kemp see if they can't claim the CF job for this season and beyond.

We can't know what the QO/FA compensation situation will be this offseason, so it's hard to guess the true upside of a potential Gomez rebound. He obviously has no trade value and it would probably be hard to find someone to even take on his full 2016 salary. He'd have to have a crazy hot June-July to have much deadline trade value if Houston doesn't get back in contention.

If I'm Luhnow I send down Marisnick and DFA Wojo, and hope that Gomez rebounds (with Kemp splitting time at CF/LF/DH/2B). But it won't shock me if they just cut bait with Gomez, especially given the rhetoric from Luhnow/Hinch over the last couple of weeks.

Chapman might be the best candidate to DFA. He has struggled profoundly at AAA this season.

Corresponding move just announced... Gomez to the DL. Don't know what's physically wrong with him but glad to see him out of the lineup for the next several games

Amazing news. Now let's hope he has a real injury that he's been hiding for 2 months, and he comes back a real player before the end of the season..?

update: bruised left rib cage. I mean, that's plausible given his swings and that dive that he got hurt on before.. but still, questionable. And sadly that's not something that will make him better when he gets back. Though the rest might

He'll just be able to "rehab" in the minors for as long as we need him to. It was an option without having to send him through waivers.

that still doesn't explain who goes from the 40-man.

That makes sense. He's just been terrible since his cup of coffee last season.

Really thought I Wojo would earn a spot. Well, he has been rattled and is tailing off his potential of a MLer. He might need a change of scenery.

Maybe I'm being dense, but...why would we want to play him there? Just the occasional rest day for Correa?

You're not being dense... the person worrying about Correa's "backup" is the dense one.

Correa will play everyday unless he's hurt. If he really truly needs a day off, Marwin will hopefully be feeling better enough to give him one. If he goes on the DL, Bregman should be called up.
