FWIW the two most impressive interviews were with D'Antoni and Hornacek.

Hornacek received a glowing endorsement from Ryan McDonough (a very good friend of DM) and showed a real understanding and philosophy similar to what the Rockets want to run.

    D'Antoni always interviews well.

Les is running the process, Daryl's talking about defense as the number one priority and here's guys like D'Antoni & Hornacek. :) Interesting, if nothing else.

It is interesting, and the reality is chemistry plays a part in the process. Les Alexander and Daryl Morey are interviewing and talking with some of these candidates for tens of hours and the "love" can grow over time; especially with Les Alexander; who has absolutely no fear deviating from the script and hire someone no one would expect. He did that with Daryl Morey and also with Kevin McHale.

Hornacek utilizes advanced stats a whole lot. He used them in Phoenix a whole lot. Thus far, Morey has provided his coaches with a whole lot of information, and little of it has been used. I am sure there is part of him that would welcome a coach that would use and value all of his raw data collected.

Is anyone surprised that D'Antoni was well liked by Les Alexander?

I haven't heard anything about Messina meeting with the Rockets, but I have to think, with the Spurs being eliminated, that the Rockets will be somewhat interested. He is well qualified.

No surprise with Les. Let us hope that he will get out of his stupor and pass up on D'Antoni and Hornacek. Over relying on stats will lead to failure.

Morey's lack of basketball experience is a liability, despite his decent overall record.

Would rep if I could. Please post more, Nook!

That information about Morey's advanced stats not being as much utilized by the coaching staff, very interesting!

Anytime I hear guys like Hornacek being mentioned simply because he's "analytic friendly" makes me cringe. That's the same logic that go McHale hired. I don't want someone that's gonna do everything Morey tells him. Morey shouldn't be looking for a puppet like Hornacek, Vogel or any other pushover. Mark Jackson, Lionel Hollins, Kenny Smith are my choices

It's bull. Just look at how the Rockets played, they followed Morey's gameplan to a T. It was all threes, lay-ups and FTs...

    No...

The last four Rockets head coaches did not utilize the raw information and statistical tendencies collected by Morey and the front office nearly as often as people believe. Adelman NEVER used it..... McHale would look at the information but often disregard it, and Bickerstaff coached like a deer caught in the headlights.

And how do you know? We all know Adelman didn't and he was great without it, so seems to be a lot of guess work here..

Hornacek is a good coach. Just don't know if he can would be able to get Harden's ear.

Jeff Hornacek isn't being mentioned because he integrates advanced statics into his game planning and decisions. He is also a well respected coach amongst those inside the league.

The Rockets I am sure would love to have him involved in the organization.

People complain that there isn't enough experience within the culture of the Rockets organization; well Hornacek is exactly the type of person you want. He works hard, is tough as nails, is flexible and open to new information.

I would be completely fine if he was an assistant, but the mess he left the Suns in was something we can't afford. Their roster was a disaster, but he did get into several altercations with Morris. I think at this period there needs to be a guy who unite theplayers. This is why I believe in Vogel so much. I would be very excited with Horny as an associate head coach under Vogel, Messina or JVG.

More and likely it will be JVG- the big name that Les always wants:

Im sure they will try to get Hornaceck or some top assistant to come along with JVG..

Golden State is interested in Hornacek as a top assistant. I always thought the Rockets interviewing Hornacek could be for an assistant job.

    Adelman was "great"?

Well I suppose he did get out of the first round once as head coach of the Rockets, so there is that.

How do I know? I am smart.... try listening to what the coaches say, try watching the basketball games and be familiar with the game.... or if that doesn't work, be fortunate enough to have family members and college friends that work for the NBA.

    Either way works honestly.

Last, you could do a simple google search to see if there is some validity to what someone says.

That will get you started, there is an article from years ago, as well as the actual audio recording of Kevin McHale discussing advanced statistical analysis.

He has given other interviews too, if you look for them I am sure you can find them as well.

If he doesn't get a HC job then heading to Oakland to be GSW's lead assistant is a no brainer.
