3rd from last based on OPS as a team http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.as...nd=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
idc about the power. he takes pitches and can make good contact with the bat. not to mention he can get on base. upgrade over valbuena instantly.
3rd to last, last, etc. it's all the same when they have a 30% K rate and can't hit their way out of a paper bag. Regardless, DH, 1B, 3B, and Gomez are all major holes...and that's not counting Castro because at least he provides something and is at a thin position.
no solution for the bottom hitters but to suck it up and wait til the season and spend some money. You can afford to spend since the great part of the order 1-3 are basically playing for pesos. what if we had set eyes on cespedes instead of gomez. would have been interesting to see how high we would have bidded.
Who cares if it translates? What's the worst that can happen? I'd bet my house his first 30 games are more productive than Valbuenas have been. On top of that, we are talking about a 30 year old veteran who has been an average at best player...there is no reason to hold out hope.
Unrelated to this game, but too cool of a stat not to pass along, per @highheatstats: "Amazing but true fact brought to my attention by @ajacksonevans: Joey Votto has popped up only 15 (yes, 15) times in his entire career."
