If they hire D'Antoni, they're not even remotely serious about building a contender. Just fielding a high scoring team in the regular season and suckering people into buying tickets. They need to improve at the defensive end. D'Antoni does nothing to help them in that area.
I hate D'Antoni, but he could be alright running the offense under JVG. 7 second offense>20 second dribble then try to force some ish like Steve Francis offense
He's not going to sell tickets and have people show up for games if he doesn't field a winning team. And by winning, I mean in the postseason. Consistently. Regular season doesn't matter. 8 out of 15 teams in the conference make the playoffs for God's sake! And we've missed the postseason 8 out of the last 19 years and in 3 of those playoff appearances, we were the 8th seed(including this season). If he's not serious about building a winner, I wish he'd sell the team already. Collect his 1-2 billion dollars(before taxes), retire to Florida, and let someone else who gives a damn run the show.
Actually Adam Clanton said today on The Bottom Line that based on a source in the organization, JVG is who the Rockets are going with but everything hinges in Dwight's decision to opt in or out
Maybe harden is calling for MDA. Didn't he coach on team USA. I know harden talks about thibs but maybe MDA had a effect on harden as well.
Clanton said the source stated that JVG is their pick. But Clanton also gave his own opinion stating that he believes JVG would want Dwight to resign with Houston. As I said, that second part was strictly Clanton's opinion. He said this around 12:10 to 12:15 today, I'll see if I can find the podcast
LZ: There's some rumors going on around there that it's gonna be Mike D'Antoni. Wouldn't it make sense? The guy who brought in the system the Rockets use, the guy who did it the best? Of course he did it the best with Steve Nash but he did it the best in Phoenix. Wouldn't it make sense he's the guy they target, if they're all in with this philosophy? You're gonna be sink & swim with D'Antoni. If that's the rumor/scuttlebutt, doesn't it make some sense? MT: Based on the philosophy the Rockets want to play, it does make sense. Maybe you'll say, look, the guy we've thrown all our chips in on(Harden), we'll just never be the type of defensive team fans want us to be and we might as well get a bunch of good scorers, better perimeter guys and let James do his thing. If that's what they want to do, that makes sense. If the Rockets wanted a defensive stalwart coach, you need defensive players to want to play to that style. Rockets don't have that currently. Beverley will give you a professional approach. Brewer will as well. Ariza too. You don't want Brewer on the court for defensive purposes. If you are in the James needs better people around him, better 3pt shooters, let him do his thing, Mike D'Antoni is your guy. Or an offensive minded guy compared to a Frank Vogel or Kelvin Sampson. LZ: Daryl wins or loses with Mike D'Antoni. He's a perfect with team philosophy but the Rockets roster is not a perfect fit for that philosophy. If you want to get a coach for philosophy, then this entire offseason has to be building roster for that philosophy and that's all on Daryl. Clanton is probably reading ClutchFans.
He's never broke news himself before, but i can see him having connections in the organization. The show is actually still on the air right now until 3pm, so there are no podcasts available yet
Gery Woelfel and now Adam Clanton I think JVG will be our head coach If Gery and Adam are wrong, I will never trust them again and they should be fired
