i actually like that he's so devastated; means he has very high standards for himself and passion. Makes for a determined next chapter! I get the feeling Vogel is the #1 choice for Houston.

    ThePessimist137,

There's probably something else going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. It's maddening not knowing, though.

Is it possible that JVG is the choice but we can't formally announce/sign him until he is done broadcasting for the playoffs? I wonder if there is some rule with ESPN/NBA that if you are a current coach then you can't be on broadcast. I feel like that would be especially true for JVG. There are so many things he says during a game that a coach would be fined for.

I don't know what the ****ing Morey is waiting.

This teams need defense and discipline badly.

Just hire JVG as the head coach ASAP!!!

You do realize Morey doesn't have full control over coaching hires right? Clearly Les has the most power here

I haven't gone through the 20+ pages in this thread but the reason why Morey's waiting is because of Dwight.

The dynamic of the team going into next season hinges on whether or not Dwight stay or opts out. It seems like a forgone conclusion that he's going to opt out but until that is official you can't really game plan, even with a coaching hire.

Think of it this way: If you're Frank Vogel, JVG, Blatt, etc. you have two very different Houston teams to assess

    1. A team with Harden and capsace to work with

    2. A team with Harden, Howard, and the season long agony of waiting for Dwight to be a FA, to be traded, etc. that also includes a roster that, financially, can't be drastically altered.

I'm sure those coaches are willing to wait to see what happens with Houston because none of them (maybe except for Vogel) need to make a quick decision.

I'm sure with all of the interviews conducted, Morey and the candidates probably have a mutual understanding that it's best to wait for the official word from Howard's camp regarding his FA status before signing anything. It's in Les and Morey's best interest to provide a better picture of how/what the team will look like for their future coach and it's in said coach's best interest to see if they will need to deal with the on court issues between Harden/Howard and how they can utilize a center with Howard's abilities/inabilities.

Wow. That never occurred to me, Stedd, but you make a great point. What's the deadline for Dwight to make up his freakin' mind?

    I think it's June 30th?

JVG is not heavily pursued right now so he can ride it out while he does commentary for the NBA Finals.

Blatt is on the radar for a few teams but none of an elite player like Harden though Orlando is a nice destination with that young roster.

Vogel is the only one I see going first.

Hmm disagree. I think is actually Dwight's decision the one it depends on what coach we hire. If you're the new coach and you don't want to keep Howard, you have a nice conversation with him, tell him, and he's gone.

That would be reasonable but one party actually has a deadline (June 30th) to make a decision while the other party can wait beyond that.

A danger of waiting... other teams come into the coach market.

Well, the Rockets can wait until late June, but then basically they are not doing a coaching cast, they are accepting to end getting the one who's left. Or the few ones. I mean, there are some very good coaches out there with other good options for them. You have to factor the time and the competence, and Morey is too smart not to do it. So I think the reason why we have no news so far go in a different direction. Don't know which one tough.

If Morey has narrowed down his list to 2-3 coaches, and if my assumption is correct, then he and his new coach can wait it out to make the announcement.

Like I said before, it's beneficial for both the Rockets and their future coach to know where Howard's free agency status lie. Why bring in a JVG or Blatt, both of whom probably want no part of Howard and/or his drama, to be coy about it (e.g. "I plan to reach out to Dwight to talk to him about his important role on this team" or "I expect Dwight to be with us") or deliver the bad news?

After all, if Howard decides to stay next year I'm willing to bet JVG would want no part of that mess as he's seen what Howard did to his brother.

What I have think happens with Cyber is that he will conjoin his own personal opinions with his inside information and it confuses people.

    So when he says:

What this probably means is that he heard Morey contacted Vogel quickly after the firing, and scheduled a meeting.

The rest is just his own personal interjections, which I don't think are as valuable ;)

    Not true.

HOU may have a coach already, but they are waiting until Dwight makes a decision.

This decision isn't being made by Daryl Morey.

Who's the frontrunner in your opinion? JVG or Mike "No Defense, Offensive God" D'Antoni?
