The goal is to hire a great coach. Not a good one.

You can't just hire great coaches. With rare exception they aren't available... Since they're already employed.

E.J is the producer, he also does baseball, golf and nascar. He's more valuable to turner sports than they are but 1 mil a year is not an insult by any means

As others have mentioned he does a lot more than just show up on Thursday nights and talk basketball for a few hours.

He most certainly would.... in addition to what everybody else has said, he's been there for 30 years and is basically one of the founders of Turner Sports (he was calling braves/Hawks games before it became a super-station).

He probably could have gotten far more marquee national gigs over the years.... but Turner/WB/Time-warner/AOL/CNN/CBS has stepped up to keep him happy, and the sports coverage has actually grown along with it.

Battier would be great as an Assistant GM. Perfect guy to balance out Morey.

coaches start some where everyone starts somewhere and its not like he can screw up the team any worse then the sad excuse of a team the past 20 years. i'm not dogging on my own team for no reason i've watched the rockets sense i was a kid and never witness a championship so i want this as bad as the rest of ya'll but these are the risks you take to get great coaches or players because you don't know will happen Houston took a major risk on brock but they don't know what will happen but the upside is too good to pass on in my opinion you already know what you'll get with JVG which is trash in my opinion.

Barrier wouldn't put in the hours necessary to be a successful head coach.

Battiers first job as a coach. Sign Ty Lawson.

Shaq is an idiot that is lazy in that regard. He got by with genetic lottery status and being able to commit offensive fouls his entire career. He's not fit nor has the mental tolerance to coach.

You make terrific points - as usual - especially about McHale. I just cannot see how they could hire Kenny Smith who has NO front office or coaching experience. I'm forced to agree with the radio talking heads who are suggesting that they (Rockets) are talking to everyone in an effort to gather as much information as possible on what head coach they need going forward. They may be finally looking for a realistic basketball philosophy which would be a welcome change from what they have been doing thus far.

Yeah, I mean I keep going back to Kerr, Jackson, Pops. They all have SYSTEMS in place. Offensively, defensively, or both. Sometimes with the help of, or because of, their assistants.

They of course have great teams, too, but great teams and players that are made better by a system that suits their talents.

I HAVE TO IMAGINE that when Kerr interviewed with Golden State, he went into his plan. How he was going to create this hybrid offense. How he was going to really focus on certain things, etc. Even if he didn't know at the time what he had in Draymond, or how good Steph/Klay could be. He had a PLAN. The fact that he was so clearly against trading Klay for a Kevin Love, for example... which at the time was the move you definitely make on paper - Love was a top 3 PF and Klay was a specialist shooter. But Kerr knew what he had and what they could do together.

The Rockets might not have the personnel in place like that, but they do have some personnel. How do you maximize Harden offensively and defensively. The DMo debate ... regardless of your thoughts on him, there is clearly tons of "winning" basketball potential with DMo. How to incorporate him into an offense. What to do with Beasley. What free agents to target. Thoughts on defending in the NBA and defending high octane offenses like GSW, SAS, OKC, etc.

Kenny Smith has to answer these questions clearly.

Any coach they interview or hire needs to answer these questions.

When Kenny was in Orlando the other players did not even like going up against him in practice. Why? Because he let them all trot to the hoop with no defense. Is that the guy you want to bring into a team who had terrible defense? Maybe he can teach Harden how to drive to the rim with his eyes closed too. Kenny the "jet?" The only guy that gave himself a nickname after he retired. Maybe he calls himself that because of all the jets he had to catch when his scrub a** got traded. And yes, I personally do not like him. If he is the coach I may finally get to ask him in person, how it felt to destroy the recording studio he use to rent out for his brother or brother In-law. I was renting the space for my studio when he got evicted. Thanks you f'ng tool for causing me months of no work. That dude and his crew even ripped out he fart fans in the bathrooms, yep, I hope he is the coach.

Wonderful post sir... I couldn't agree more this team needs six guys that can all go in double digits in scoring without giving up too much on the defensive end. So far, I see maybe three guys that can give us double digits on this team.
