Not saying im an osweiller detractor (not his fault we overpaid him) but yes I would take that package.
Paxton Lynch was Carson Wentz before Carson Wentz. He was the smaller school wunderkind shooting up draft boards, and the Bonnie to Goff's Clyde. Then, suddenly, he started falling like a rock as teams looked at him more. By the time draft night rolled around, the only two teams willing to spend a late first-round pick on him were the Broncos (eho don't have a QB on the roster) and Jerry Jones. That would worry me. Paxton does nothing for this team next year. Sure, Osweiler only has a handful of starts, but he has multiple years of being in a locker room, watching Peyton, learning a playbook, etc. By the time Lynch is ready, if he ever is, our team make-up may be entirely different. Drafting Paxton Lynch would mean that Hoyer/Weeden/Savage is the starter this season. Malik Jackson (or someone on that level) is not worth that. On top of all of that, if we hadn't signed Osweiler, then everyone would know that we needed a QB. There's no guarantee that he would have been there at 22, as any team that potentially wanted him would have known to trade in front of us to get him. (And if we traded a 6th round to move up 1 spot to get Fuller, can you imagine what we would have given up to trade up for Lynch if we still needed a QB?)
He kind of does.... Ryan Fitzpatrick, career: 80.8 QB rating; 6.7 YPA; 1.3:1 TD/INT Ryan Fitzpatrick, Texan: 95.3 QB rating; 8.0 YPA; 2.1:1 TD/INT Brian Hoyer, career: 82.2 QB rating; 7.2 YPA; 1.5:1 TD/INT Brian Hoyer, Texan: 91.4 QB rating; 7.1 YPA; 2.7:1 TD/INT BOB went 5-0 with Keenum, Yates and/or Weeden starting; those 3 are 10-31 in all of their combined, non-BOB starts.
I think it's a load of baloney; BOB first saw Brock against us in the preseason and in the press conference, Smith said that they all saw film of Brock together:
Nah, I think the team made the right choice going after Brock. Didn't really think he would leave Denver, so I wanted them to go after other players (like giving RG3 a try-out, keyword "tryout"). Bradford wants out of Philly, and I still would have preferred someone like Brock over Sam. No matter what happens this upcoming, it was the right move at the time when you think about Watt's primeand the difference in keeping or giving up multiple picks to move up.
Yeah, that seems really dumb considering BOB's quotes on Brock. Find it really hard to believe Rick and McNair would sign Brock if the head coach didnt want him. And then he claims BOB overruled the scouts on Fuller vs. Doctson?
I think this guy is trying to make a name for himself. I like Doctson as well, but Fuller's speed breeds fear, fear opens up opportunities. While it may be a lot of new faces, the system is the same and we have guys that have been in this system to help the new guys. If you look at the success Bob has had with scrubs, I believe he's like a kid on Christmas with ALL the presents. We've added weapons to our squad that if they develop could make us one of the most interesting and potent offenses in the NFL. Why would Bob say no to Brock? Doesn't make sense. He's a big, smart, mobile, and hard-working QB, who should only get better. Texans fans are what? Media ****s on Texans every chance they get (normally). I don't count the Chronidebacle as media, but that's just me. Where's the Houston Post when you need it?
Sort of, yeah, which is why I like him as a coach, just not as a talent evaluator. That said, the Hoyer numbers are artificially inflated by essentially only being against mostly bad teams. Keenum, Yates, Weeden and Fitz are all better QB's. The fact that he managed to have Fitzpatrick and then chose to do worse says a lot about BOB's ability to judge talent.
It's widely known that Braddock is a hack. His Pre-draft player rankings are ****ing hilarious. He actually had our UDFA TE Anderson as his #1 TE in the draft. The only reason he sticks around is that he'll blatantly bash anything that he sees so long as it gets him noticed in the smallest amount. I've listened to his show a few times, and my god the guy wants to be the next hot take talking head of ESPN. He has continued to make "insider" claims for the Texans for the past couple years, and has never been correct. Constantly trying to show why the Texans/RickSmith or BOB are making mistakes. He wants to be the "truth" in Houston media, but all he does is cry and **** himself. Every report coming out of the Texans for rookie camp is positive. You want to know why? It's a bunch of young kids running in shorts not knowing a ****ing lick about what they're doing. You can't look at rookie camp and judge it on any value what so ever. He's trying to salvage his last place talk show by making remarks that are completely opposite of every other media personality in Houston. He isn't trying to actually report, he's trying to get noticed. The only "insider" I trust that isn't paid by the Texans or a national media outlet is Patrick Starr. He actually has people within the Texans that divulge information to him, unlike Mclain/everyone else, and he talks about exactly what he sees. He doesn't sugar coat it, doesn't try to soften it for this weak ass Texans market. On second thought, I trust Aaron Wilson as well. But he's more known for FO insider info, not on field specifics.
Yeah, I never really knew who this guy was, best I can tell he was an "internet fantasy football expert" who got into sports radio. Not the CV of someone whose opinions I will value.
dude is so routinely wrong it's hilarious... who was the no name small school QB who he said was gonna be the best of the class a year or two ago? pretty sure that qb is no longer in the league. it's almost as if he purposely chooses the most obscure players just to f*&$ with everyone. he had fuller ranked 15th... 15th! his schtick is too transparent.
Braddock claimed that the scouts wanted doctson and that obrien overruled them for fuller at the last second. Schefter confirmed the part of the story that the Texans were set on doctson until the last second.
Its very possible that they're both just rehashing the same "source". Its also very possible that BOB is truly calling all the shots... which then makes the other comment (he never wanted Osweiler) that much more harder to believe/fathom.
To be clear on what Braddock said about osweiler, he didn't say obrien was against it he said obrien preferred the draft route but McNair and smith were sold on osweiler. Obrien spent a lot of time watching the tape and got on board. He said it was not a heated disagreement
Sounds like only one of those guys took the proper approach into evaluating what should be a pretty important decision... but Braddock made it seem more controversial than even that. But again, there's a lot of crap out there spewed.... Braddock hasn't said anything to make anybody believe he's truly "connected"... and has been flat-out wrong/embarassed in the past with some of his statements.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...arolina-panthers-top-green-bay-packers-behind Spoiler 17. Houston Texans 2015 record: 9-7 Post-free agency ranking: No. 12 What we know about Brock Osweiler is that the Texans will pay him $37 million guaranteed over the next two years to be their quarterback. What we don't know is ... really much of anything else. The Texans have long considered themselves a franchise quarterback away from something special. The question is whether that's still true. We were 12th after free agency, but somehow drop 5 spots and all they talk about is Osweiler.....
We went 9-7 with a plunger at qb. Tired of the western media giving us an 8-8, 9-7 record. have the cojones to say 12-4 or 1-15. 9-7 such a safe pick.
