As you said, Curry was overwhelmingly the best player this year.

As such, if you gave a fan the stats (individual plus team record) of the top 15 NBA players for 2016 and asked him to separate the players into tiers, wouldn't you imagine that Curry would have his own tier?

yes, but it all depends on how you're willing to group and label players at the top. Again, many people still regard top 5 or top 10 players in NBA elite regardless of Curry's dominance, so there's really no point in arguing this. It's basically semantics and depends on your definition of the word.

And no matter how you define "elite", a team with a "near zero" chance of winning a title isn't an elite team.

A perfectly reasonable definition for "elite" is, could they compete for titles in a normal year. By that measure, the (healthy) Clippers, Thunder and Cavaliers would all, IMO, qualify. They just got swamped this year by two historically elite teams. Seasons like the Spurs just had don't happen very often, let alone the season the Warriors had. Outlier teams don't suddenly downgrade other teams, IMO.

How can he be the MVP?

Curry is not that good, it's Kerr's system made that team great, anyone can look great in that system. Replace Curry with Harden, that team would go undefeated.

Curry is not that good, that team has tremendous talent, they can win 60 games without him. Green is the MVP of that team, Klay is a better shooter, Livingston manages the game better. He is lucky to play on that team. Oh, Kerr is not that good, anyone can coach that team, he just rolls the ball out there.

That team is not that good, they are just lucky. This is a water-down league, no good team is out there. GSW is just lucky to be in this era, every good team can win 70+ games now. I the NBA, or refs, don't help them, they would have been swiped by the true great team, the Harden-lead Rockets.

This is insulting to Harden. He will be even less motivated next season.

    Nope, wrong again.

When the 2017 season starts, Lebron/Durant/Leonard will all be considered elite players.

However, a GSW team without Curry won't be considered elite.

    Nope, wrong agian.

They both would be considered elite, and you already admitted that by your own standard Lebron/Durant/Leonard have not been elite players this year. Ask other people about that and get back to me on how many agree with your opinion.

    Absolutely wrong.

A team that has a near zero chance of winning the title is not "elite". That's not my opinion. That's a universal fact. I suggest you buy a dictionary.

And regarding Lebron/Durant/Leonard, the question would be:

"Given that, in 2016, Stephen Curry led his team to an NBA record 73 wins while having arguably the greatest offensive season in NBA history, was Curry in a tier by himself?"

How many people would say "no"? Even you stated earlier that Curry was overwhelmingly the best player in the 2016.

And regarding 'the elite team' the question would be :

"Given that, in 2016, GSW and SAS had one of the historically great seasons of all time while having arguably the greatest offensive/defensive season in NBA history, was GSW/SAS in a tier by themselves?"

How many people would say "no"?

so by your own logic there still could be several elite teams, if you're going to argue there are several elite players in the league besides Curry
