It will take much longer for the conservatives to revive if you can reform election financing so billionaires cannot invest unlimited money to buy politicians.

When Trump is your leading candidate it says it all

I have said for a long time that this piss poor uneducated, uncharismatic pathetic bunch of GOP candidates were the worst ever

None of them had the passion, charisma, education and thoughtful thinking of Obama. They were just a bunch of filth throwing personal attacks at each other since they did not know how to talk policy or strategy.

    RIP GOP

Your lack of knowledge on the matter is disappointing. You need look no further than the Bush administration to find Republican Politicians and their racist emails.

There were of course Republicans who openly stated they were trying to keep blacks from voting. They may not have been racist and just wanted to win, but the policies they were proposing and pushing for were meant to stop blacks from voting. Whether they were actually racists or not, isn't that important since what they were doing was racist.

Yes there were plenty of racist Democrats. I would say the party positions in the south were definitely racist.

...I remember back in 1998, when there were rumblings for Colin Powell to run for President within the GOP...

...a lifelong Republican and conservative (a place a lot of Negroes occupy in conservative politics...or would at least would not mind occupying, despite some counter narratives)...

...and Powell said publicly and privately that he would not...or rather COULD not...run for the party nomination with so much obvious racism within the GOP...

...Powell wasn't interested in a "show", like Dr. Ben Carson or Herman Cain before him...

...he knew he would never survive a primary season if he tried to win the Republican nomination.

...and this was nearly 20 years ago, now.

He's probably saying much the same thing now, if anyone's asked him.

Pretending that Donald Trump's candidacy is anything more than what it is at it's core--a pseudo-Fascist, racist political perspective that this country is still struggling to get rid of, is the very reason why it persists and raises its ugly head every so often.

Human beings are remarkably complex, but we're not overly complicated. The reason why history tends to repeat itself if we choose to forget it or re-write it, is precisely because none of us move very far from our own nature.

    ...or, apparently, our voting habits...

What in the world is going on?

It's funny, because the Trigglypuffs were turning myself- and a lot of other liked minded young people- away from the Democratic party. Both parties really screwed up.

The GOP could have presented themselves as a party of sanity from crazy liberals and liberaltarianism. It's not like the Ted Cruzes of the world would be voting blue anyway. Myself and a lot of my friends who used to be registered Democrats left and started to join the GOP. Welp, not anymore.

The Democratic Party could have been the party of sanity from Trump and Cruz. Instead, they're crying about safe spaces.

Despite having no systemic reason to do so, both parties decided to cater to their extremes and ignore the center.

That's BS. Just because there are idiots on campuses with the safe space crap. Does not mean that democrats as a whole are far left. Complete and utter BS. Letting gay people get married is not extreme. Not wanting them to is though.

Telling soldiers to shoot innocent civilians and banning all Muslims from the country = some girl yelling about racism as threats to the Republic. LOL.

What's even funnier to me is #NeverTrump people claiming that PC led to the rise of Trump...not sure how PC led to 2/3rds of Americans wanting to torture detainees and 1/2 wanting to ban all Muslims, but I think if you break it you should own it :/

I would argue it started in 2008 when Obama was elected. What we're seeing now is the end result of an 8 year long hissy fit.

It's not a good thing for a republic to only have one legitimately serious political party.
