Time to start the Jason Groome watch? Power pitcher with several offerings and a high ceiling. Likely to go #1-2 in the draft. Would need to hold off the Braves and Padres. Couple that with a #1 for Rasmus leaving and a #1 for Gomez if he gets out of the gutter, and the Astros could be looking at some good pieces to build a rotation and bottom of the order.
2017 draft talk — that's depressing. And still gotta get through this year. I know you said if Gomez gets going but ehhh, damn risky to offer him a QO and have him accept. And Rasmus might/could accept again too.
Gomez would have to really get going for the Astros to make him a qualifying offer. An OPS of like 850 from here on out. Unlikely Gomez accepts the QO if he heats up because he wants a long term deal. Rasmus is weird, who knows. Wishing the Astros would have just signed Carlos Rodon in the draft. He isn't great yet but has plus stuff and would fit the Astros needs. Since the Astros have turned into diarhea I need something to look forward to before the Texans disapoint and Brock Osweiler is benched and Les Alexander signs some odd head coach that isn't the best candidate... Jeff Hornacek? Will Van Gumdy kiss enough Less ass to get the gig?
The Astros just need some .250 hitters which ought to be pretty cheap... so go get them, and then they need a number 2 pitcher which is expensive. But they don't need much to turn it around. Yet. It needs to be done now. Not later. Go make some moves.
How would people feel if they went out and got a guy like Shields? He's expensive ($-wise) and has years left on his deal, and isn't who he once was. But he's an innings-eater and is a #2-type guy who's available. But it could mean 1 less slot to go after a higher level guy in FA... still do it at this point? I think I would. But I just wonder if people realize that we could potentially affect free agency decisions by making moves now
Gomez is back. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here's how the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> will line up for game two against the Twins. <a href="https://t.co/WCMsujLquh">pic.twitter.com/WCMsujLquh</a></p>— Houston Astros (@astros) <a href="https://twitter.com/astros/status/727589652211838976">May 3, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Is attendance way down this season based on the lackluster performance or what? I couldn't believe how empty it seemed to be last night. Are they thinking about moving the team to Nashville?
Weekday game and school is still in If we were off to a great start I'm sure it would help a little but a Monday game this time of the year isn't going to draw great
We need Mallee back. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Slumps:<br>Correa 3-for-21<br>Rasmus 1-for-14<br>White 0-for-9<br>Valbuena 0-for-15<br>Gattis 0-for-9<br>Marwin 0-for-7</p>— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) <a href="https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/727646479058280449">May 3, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
