The script was just GOD AWFUL. Some of those lines between Smith and Harry Connick Jr while they were flying were just unbearable.

I thought the special effects were pretty good. The gigantic discs emerging above the cities were awesome. So was the death ray. Really the only redeeming parts of the first movie for me. I usually turn it off once the discs are all in place.

It does not look good. It will be a popcorn flick with not much substance (Like the first one only worse i expect).

This movie would've been huge if Will Smith was in it. Now? Not so much.

Will was in a sci fi flop with his son.

People dislike his son but still love Will. That movie flopped because of his son and a shoddy plot.

That movie (After Earth) flopped because of three words: M Night Shyamalan. This looks somewhat intriguing from the trailer. Looks like the aliens have really upped their game. Hopefully, the script will have more teeth than the last movie's did.

I dunno...the latest images of Randy Quaid imply he would fit right in to this movie. Too bad he died in the first.

I assume the Goldblum character is going to figure out how to stick it to the aliens when his character's Dad makes another trivial remark? I wonder what it will be this time..."floss your teeth or you'll get gum disease"?

I feel the same. I really loved the first one as a kid, but I can't see myself going to the theater for this.

hope the aliens finally win this time,,, the idea that we can defeat any kind of alien invasion is laughable.

It still made 250 mil on 130 mil budget. Will Smith pretty much garuntees your movie will make money no matter how terrible it is.

Hmm, point taken. His latest, Focus, pulled in a domestic gross of $53,862,963 and a worldwide gross of $105,150,000 for a total worldwide box office of $159,012,963 on a production budget of $50.1 million. It did make money but probably not as much as they expected.

Having Will Smith in a lead role does not mean box office success anymore. Not only did After Earth flop, so did that movie with the babe from Wolf of Wall Street. ID4 2 will do fine without him.

Focus was still #1 at the box office. After Earth was complete garbage and still made a quarter of a billion. This movie will be fine, but saying Will Smith, as a box office draw is a thing of the past, is ridiculous.

We will see if Concussion does well. I think it will.

Was only a flop domestically. Worldwide it doubled it's money.

    Production Budget: $130 million

    Total Lifetime Grosses
    Domestic: $60,522,097 24.8%
    + Foreign: $183,321,030 75.2%
    = Worldwide: $243,843,127

Movie theaters get half of the gross in the US and more like 60-65% overseas. Production budgets also do not account for marketing expenses.

    So: $130 million gross
    Domestic revenue to studio: $30m
    Foreign revenue to studio: $97m

So break even before marketing costs.

But I agree...a $245m rev movie isn't really a "flop" as lots of people clearly went to see it

Studios always make up **** about the numbers to make it seem like a LOSS
    for Tax Purposes.
Avatar made like a billion dollars but was still shown as having been a loss
