All of these guys drafted except for Martin are going to be helping on special teams coverage in one way or another
The current 4th round pick, hand-picked by the coach, not making the roster. Repeat that **** to yourself and tell me how you dont smh to your damn self
yep! Texans PR @TexansPR 1h1 hour ago .@HoustonTexans RB Tyler Ervin played RB, WR, return specialist, CB and special teams defender for San Jose State:
CBS Sports: A versatile yet undersized RB at 5-foot-9, but is very fast. Will have a hard time seeing the field after the Texans signed Lamar Miller. (Grade: D) ESPN: What he brings: Ervin is a versatile weapon coming off a highly productive senior season, rushing for 1,601 yards and 13 touchdowns. He's a shifty runner who makes it tough for defenders to get a clean hit on him, and he shows good burst around the edge. While he doesn't play quite as fast as his timed top-end speed (4.41), he's more than fast enough to make defenses pay for giving him a crease. He caught 45 passes last season, had three career kickoff returns for touchdowns and he has two career punt returns for touchdowns. -- Steve Muench Rotoworld: Ervin (5'10/192) was a multi-phase weapon at San Jose State, aligning at tailback, slot receiver, cornerback, return specialist, and gunner. He graduated as the school's all-time leader in all-purpose yards (6,146), kick-return yards (2,374), combined punt and kicks returned for TDs (5), and most TDs of 80 yards or more (6). Ervin's explosive athleticism was confirmed in Indy, blazing 4.41 with a 39-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump. While his size is indicative of a Dexter McCluster type, Ervin's ability to carry a heavy college workload hints at the potential for more should that opportunity come. Initially, expect Ervin to be a core special teamer while competing for snaps behind Lamar Miller.
But you don't need him to be that right now... I think if Miller were to miss reps they would go to Grimes for the most part. Which I like, I think Grimes needs a bigger role but I like adding Ervin to be that third back that can give you a boost in a few carries here and there. I think on day 3 of the draft you have to start looking for guys that can fit into a role if you want real value.

I think if you are designing the whole offense around a speed back you need a serviceable speed back ready to go in case of injury. Blue will be the short yardage back, Grimes and Hunt may not make the 53. Man, that guy's tape is exciting. One cool thing is, we are going to have a whale of a competition for kick returner. A far cry from Mumphrey by default. I think it will be Ervin over Fuller and Miller.
His family was cheering and excited, he wasn't. Looking at his bio, he ain't a dumb kid and he probably understand that he is coming to a situation with a newly signed starter and also 4-5 guys he needs to compete with and his best shot to make the team could be just a special team player. Hope he finished that real estate license.
I like the pick as an offense fan, but seems kind of strange for a 4th round pick. Dude seems identical to Hunt to me, his tape is pretty dope though.
Why not? He seems similar in size to Forsett if not bigger. Seems like he was a bell cow in college according to the commentary at the draft.
The more I watch of him the more excited I get. Attacks open lanes, doesn't dance and is crazy explosive
So, I've watched quite a bit of tape on this dude...and my wife's family has a few alum from his school (they live in the Bay)...i have to say that this could be the most underrated pick we made. Few items to note: He hits the hole fast and hard as soon as it opens up. This is a massive upgrade over Alfred Blue, who can never take quick advantage of the hole in front of him. The RBs on our roster, outside of Miller, are not good. I know we like Grimes and all that, but that's bc it's relative to the other crap we had on our roster last year. Having two solid RBs will help Brock tremendously. This guy is another home run hitter that can only help this team. Remember when Blue had that massive hole and ran all the way for a long td run? Yeah, that didn't happen bc he completely slowed down when he got to the other teams 20 yard line. That won't happen again. RBs get injured all the time... We need quality depth.. And Blue is not depth. Grimes could possibly be the third stringer and that's okay... But this team needs two solid guys in the backfield. He can catch the ball...hes much more of a reviewing threat than any of the RBs on the roster outside of Miller. With this offense, it will be nice to have someone that can turn into an extra receiving option when the play breaks down and Brock needs an exit strategy. Lastly, Miller has never had a big workload. He will get that this year, but how will his body respond? In the event he's unable to handle the extra work, do you guys really feel confident in trotting Blue out there? Teams would be able to sit back and defend the pass bc they wouldn't be worried at all with Blue in the backfield. This pick is big for us and I think most of the fans will see that by the preseason, if he's working hard and staying healthy, which I expect.
Hopkins, Ervin, Fuller, Miller, Miller, Strong and Hunt. The versatility on O is going to be tremendous. I was begging for a Bernard or Sproles type of guy for this offense and now we have two. Just hoping one of these guys can return decently. This draft/offseason was a TOTAL overhaul in ways I've never seen from the Texans.
