so, one 2 game series (counts, fine), one 3 game series, and 2 other 3-game series at the end of the season vs 2 scrapheap teams with nothing to play for

Devenski was okay. The Astros just keep finding ways to lose. Bullpen, offense, starting pitching. It's like another water leak opens up on the wall, you try covering that, and the other leak is left open.

They do play Minnesota Monday-Wednesday, who's also 7-17. Someone has to "win" that series. Why not us?

Actually, it's only a 2 game series. Odds are neither team wins.

disgusting that they all are talking about the possibility of winning games simply because the calendar says "May" instead of "April".

Edit: Thanks RP. | Nope, 3-game series with the Twins.

Here in Houston. Start of a 10-game homestand. Minnesota-Seattle-Cleveland.

Safe to say they've put themselves in a hole.

Just some scenarios:
Best case: sweep the homestand(very unlikely) — 17-17
Worst case: swept on the homestand(very unlikely) — 7-27
If they can go 2-1, 3-1, 2-1 — 14-20
If they go 2-1, 2-2, 2-1 — 13-21
If they go 1-2, 1-3, 1-2 like they've done most of the year — 10-24
If they go 1-2, 2-2, 1-2 — 11-23

I am sick on the Astros after one month.... Next time follow BigTexxx's advise and open the pocket book Crain.... You can't expect Luhnow to be perfect.

It was me. And 1 game doesn't mean he's toast or hasn't turned a corner. He's been hitting well after getting 7 games to get his feet wet...everyone else had spring training. (Maybe he should have had a rehab assignment.)

Umm but a lot of people wanted Justin Upton--his .539 OPS ($133M) would be getting vilified right now. Same with Heyward's .604 ($184M). Not just about the spending..

Oh yeah, David Price and his 5.76 ERA ($217M)

Not just that... most people are calling for Jake Marisnick to play over Gomez (and his $9million/year salary). Most people lamenting the trading of dirt cheap prospects for established MLB players. People want White/Reed/Moran to supplant the more expensive Gattis/Valbuena.

I think people have identity confusion when it comes to this team. Everybody wants them to spend money, but would rather have the young prospect option over an underperforming veteran (And there's nothing worse than an overpaid veteran.)

Luhnow did exactly what he should be doing, provided you're not the GM of a team that will never spend money or raise payroll... he may not have ended up making the right choices, but part of attempting to improve is to mix in established vets to complement the young talent.

I'd then say maybe one of the games is postponed by weather....but both have roofs.....(IIRC)....
