yes it was worth it. We had scola martin and hayes leading this team at one point, kept finishing as 8th seed with 14th pick and finally landed 2 superstars. Even if it didn't work out, it was an exciting few years.
what does that have to do with anything? we could've used that $60 million to acquire more productive players and help this team win. Dwight missed half of regular season games last year, and he just sucked all around this year. I'm asking how is this worth the money given the opportunity cost.

Omar Asik + Chandler Parsons + Jeremy Lin is easily better than Dwight alone. Dwight missed half the regular season games last year, and only showed up in the playoffs. He didn't even do that this year, and sucked from beginning to the end. Explain how that's worth $ 60 million.
And would have made this team better if they stayed instead of Dwight. Dwight was OK in the first year. After that, he was total waste of money. Period.
Of course it was worth it Dwight was the Rockets best postseason player 2 straight years. Its generally acknowledged that it wasnt his fault the team didnt advance, it was Harden sucking on both ends of the court. The year after, he missed games but was still the defensive anchor on a WCF team, and the best center on the court in all his matchups. This year the wheels fell off of everything. But its part the gamble in getting him or any super star player.
Are you out of your mind, last year Harden was the best player in the playoffs easily. And Howard didn't to anything special, it was Josh Smith and Harden that made Howard look good by constantly feeding him with good lob passes for him to dunk on. He couldn't even create his own offense and it got even worse this season.

This is what so bothers me about Dwight. I've never heard of another so called 'superstar' so dependent on his physical abilities and completely lacks basketball fundamentals to the degree that Howard does. It just screams 'I'm too lazy to develop my game outside winning the genetic lottery.' Hard to respect a player like that. Dwight is the antithesis of Tim Duncan, who can still play while being almost 40 years old, because his greatness came from having high skills and basketball IQ, not lousy athleticism.
most max contract guys are worth more than their contracts, so dwight can be up at that pay level and still be worth it even if he's not the 4th best player in the league. given that we were a good team in year 1 and a WCF team in year 2, i would say it was worth it even knowing what we know now. and no matter how it turned out, the initial signing was definitely worth it at the time. history says you can either draft great players with really high picks or sign/trade for them. the ones you sign/trade for typically aren't the absolute best stars otherwise they wouldn't be available. you take who is available and if you can get one of them, you try to make it work. this obviously didn't but you do it again every day and twice on sunday.
disagree. even when Dwight was a Laker, signs of decline in his game was apparent due to several injuries and gradual loss of athleticism. remember Steve Francis? yeah, he too started to suck as early as late 20s. that's what happens to players who overly rely on their physical abilities to perform at a high level, with no other particular skillset to fall back on when their athleticism begins to wane. never was fan of signing Dwight, 'cause I knew his career was already on a downhill track and would become average player quite rapidly in the years to come. and it turns out that I was right. so, no, Dwight was definitely not worth signing to the max and will go down as one of Morey's mistakes.
