Well, there is no "cure" for a cold since it's a virus so cold medicine doesn't really do much except settle your symptoms. One common symptom of a cold is a fever so you could just take aspirin for that. The "D" in allergy meds is simply a decongestant, the same thing you'd get in most cold medicines anyway.

I say skip the cold medicine regardless and take Claritin-D (or other). If you think it's a cold, then start slamming down water and Emergen-C (or any vitamin C supplement). You can safely take 4000mg of vitamin C per day.

If you run a fever, take an aspirin.

If you like getting drowsy from the cold meds (Nyquil), then drink some scotch (or other beverage of your choosing). But be sure to drink water too since alcohol can dehydrate you which is exactly opposite of what you need if you are sick.

    Cold medicine is a scam.

...oh, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

The few years I battled with nose stuffiness. Change your pillow brehs. Now I can breath out both nostrils.

i agree with krosfyah's and cheke's posts completely.

i did get tired of taking the antihistamine's though, and saw their effectiveness drop off quickly.

for pillows, the expensive japanese types available have worked for me, with buckwheat or rubber balls inside.

a good HEPA air cleaner in your bedroom also does wonders. and get your a/c's cleaned regularly.

eventually though, nothing works better than simply changing your venue to a place with less of your type of allergans in the air..

The meds haven't really helped much this year.

The dry, itchy eyes is finally over for me....but I've been a bit itchy, and I get into these sneezing fits where I sneeze 5+ times in a 30 second time frame.

I had a typo. Meant to say the last FEW years.

I noticed that everytime I would go on a vacation I would sleep 12 hours comfortably but at home only sleep like 6 hours. I changed my sheets and pillows and success ensued. Need to replace the bed soon. I hear Hampton hotels have great beds.

Minus 1 week of hell in March, Flonase has done what its supposed to do this year (provided you use it everyday, regardless of whether or not you feel good or bad).

Yes. Flonase. I suffered for years before finding this. Works miracles.

I am allergic to olive tree pollen.
But I dont know why for the past two years my allergy has miraculously gone away all of a sudden. Able to enjoy the spring again. Has this happened to anyone else?

Btw I hated taking antihistamines. Made me incredibly drowsy like a zombie.

I have to think so. Do you think people suffered like this (from allergies anyway) in the Middle Ages? I doubt it. It has to be pollution or diet or air conditioning or something that has done this to us. I never had any allergy problems until I was 20. And it just seems to get worse as I get older.

Go to your local Hong Kong market and look for some White Flower ointment. Rub a little under your nose. Works like champ for clearing up sinuses.

tsk tsk how naive and stupid...
After moving into a new house in the middle of olive groves , I realised the simple truth, allergies do not miraculously go away.

After suffering for months and allergy turned into asthma, finally I went to see an allergiologist.

Thank god for third generation antihistamines.

No side effects whatsoever, 100% effective.

If it doesn't work for you, you don't take the right medicine.

Generic Allegra and Costco nasal spray has been working for me of late. Though I definitely use the nasal spray more than I’m supposed to.

Much better than the old school when I used to get shots once a week to deal with allergy season.

Had to check if I’d said similar years ago. Combined with the drugs and spray the neti pot is another revolution for me in the fight. Got my distilled water on the way home tonight.

Yeah, a few of us at work yesterday were red eyed and just felt like complete crap. I use Flonsse Mist everyday but seems like 3-4 times a month it just hits me and I am one unproductive sob.

I'm pretty sure Houston allergies ended Roger Daltrey's career

Neilmed Saline lavage (squeeze bottle not nelliepot)
    Flonase
    Claritan

    Everyday!
