Davis, at least, could definitely be a full-time starting center if his team wanted him there. Serge Ibaka could, too. Getting too hung up on the position they generally play doesn't make sense, since in many cases position is dictated by the rest of the personnel or team philosophy. Olajuwon could have been a center or power forward. Duncan, too. One got played at center and the other (mostly) at power forward.

He was referencing my list and why aren't they centers? just because you don't think they fit the bill? Horford has almost exclusively been the starting center for the Hawks over his career, Towns started at center all year long, and Bosh was the starting center on multiple championship teams. Calling them "not centers" is splitting hairs to say the least. In an NBA where positions are largely meaningless, your point is equally as irrelevant

When talking about the label of center, I think defense, rebounding and size are key, the size and strength to hold big centers is important. That's why I don't view Horford, Bosh or other combo bigs as true centers. If your saying position doesn't matter anymore in today's NBA, I agree to an extent, but this thread is about Howard being a top 10 center or not, not being a top 10 bigman. That's the only reason why I brought question to some of the players listed, I have no bias for Howard being a top center or not, nor do I have a problem with combo players.
If the player earning the most salary on your team doesn't even belong in top 10 in his position, that's a problem and investment gone wrong.
It was a problem last year that was covered by multiple guys stepping up on his behalf, which you should not take for granted. and I'm with McHale that he sucks at post-up.
