Anquan Boldin always comes to mind for me of guys that were very good in year 1, but there is no question that there tends to be a learning curve for rookie WRs. The great ones are still productive in year 1, usually not at a #1 or #2 level.

So if wide receivers are such a bad bet, what position are you guaranteed to get someone who will kill it as a rookie? It looks pretty hit or miss across the board.

Looking at ROY winners, looks like the best bet is RB and LB. So should we just draft running backs and linebackers with our first pick every year in the hopes of getting early returns?

WR are not a bad bet they just take longer to develop usually. If you draft a WR with your first pick you had better have patience.

Longer compared to what? TE's? DB's? O linemen?

Really they are some of the quickest to develop.

Those guys are the reason they won't take him.

If there is anything the Texans should have learned from their draft experience, it's take the highly motivated guy. self-motivated... driven.

If you could pick a guy at 22 who was a guaranteed starter, a 10 year player and possible pro bowl candidate, would you care what position he played?

    (Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama)

If whoever they select at 22 fits that criteria I don't care who it is or what position he plays.

I'm warming to the idea of Kelly as well. If this crop of receivers is as deep as everyone says, I think it makes more sense to grab far and away the best center at #22 and address WR with our 2nd or 3rd round pick.

    1st - R. Kelly
    2nd - Boyd or B. Miller
    3rd Day - Jakeem Grant

Everything I see from different sources all over the place points to Will Fuller. I really hope that is just a well executed smoke screen.

What I see with my own two eyes is so completely different from all the gushing I read and hear from others.

And I really wouldn't get your hopes up on Kelly. Everything I see indicates that they aren't as concerned as some of you about the position. I think its more likely they take an edge rusher than a center in the first. If they go offensive line, I'm positive they will be looking at tackles early.

historically the texans have been pretty tight lipped about what they are targeting. WR makes sense but the fact that there are these "inside reports" makes me think they will be targeting something other than a WR.

Maybe they are happy with Bergstrom at center but it is a big hole to fill that needs to filled.

Sure that's a hole, but a first round Center? You can probably get one of the top 2 centers in the entire draft in the 2nd round, you might even be able to get one of those 2 in the 3rd. Centers don't usually go that early no matter how good they are.

They aren't starters, and I hope they don't go to Pro Bowls (as if making the pro bowl actually meant something).
