Why shouldn't he avoid the luxury tax? Its money he pays out of his own pocket that goes to his competitors! And being part of the lux tax also means you don't get the lux tax money that other teams pay out of their own pocket.

Avoiding the lux tax is the a logical thing to do, and compared to what other owners do like selling draft picks for cash or paying out high draft picks for others to absorb bad contracts or choosing no name coaches and personell to save on $$$ that's pretty mild.

Its all because you are living in this bubble that you can judge other people how they should be spending their money. Alexander is not exactly the paragon of ownership but he's far from being a cancer or a bottom owner. Give me a break you 99ers exaggerate everything like you have posters here saying the Rockets are the worst franchise in the league

i'm not saying he's the greatest coach ever, but he did get an 8th seed to the finals. there was a ton of parity in the east that year (or maybe it was parody), so the other seeds weren't that much better than his 8th seeded team, but clearly he didn't just get there with overwhelming talent.

All 99ers are brothers even if you deny it.
Why do you think clutch created us?

Oh, by the way, you are the one who created a bunch of fire jvg threads back in the day.

    Brother!

Then you're jaded and weren't really paying attention.

Sura, Battier, Hayes, Howard, Barry, Jackson... even Rafer all brought an increased level of intensity, tenacity, professionalism, and a killer instinct that none of them showed at any of their other stops in their careers. Going back to his time with the Knicks, you can add Spreewell, Allan Houston, and Marcus Camby to that list as well.

He did get T-mac (when healthy) to give enough of a damn to not only play defense (still remember him clamping down on prime Dirk), but to be a facilitator as much as possible.

He was the one who finally got Yao to embrace the ability to dominate the low post.. to the point that he was cursing at his opponents ("just try to ****ing stop me!")

The examples are there... as is the respect and admiration for him that still exists after players move on and finish their careers. Battier, Yao, T-mac still gush over playing for him... not so much Rick Adelman (not to say they didn't think he was a good coach, but they clearly didn't develop the same personal relationship under him that they already had with JVG).

Being a successful coach in the NBA goes well beyond plain x's/o's... as are the majority of the problems currently plaguing this Rockets team (who seemed to do ok last year, still without full structure and x/o coaching staff excellence). The Rockets don't need a playbook as thick as the Texans... they don't necessarily need to implement some hybrid of the triangle mixed with the princeton.

But they do need somebody to unify them... and get them to give their all, each and every game.

I don't know about your sources, but JVG still has a huge man crush on the rockets as I've seen on TV... Seems like Morey the God can get it done

    Who gives AF?

You get the concept of private property, right?

If you don't like the owner's product, find a different product. We all know how much you love Mark Cu99an. Go form the 16ers club on the Mavs board.

This is the type of post you would hope to read from a 99er.

Unfortunately the 99ers are all lumped into the loony tune basket thanks to he who must not be named.

Luxury tax isn't just about monetary punishment. It handcuffs the team on future moves. Paying money for big names without a plan is a dumb idea. People who say Les is cheap or a bad owner because he doesn't go over the luxury tax don't see the whole picture. See Brooklyn Nets as example or the Carol Dawson Rockets era with Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Matt Maloney, etc.
