So, Rockets in the playoffs (thus not conducting a coaching search) gonna lose out on top tier coaches? SMH.
I do think these coaches will be smart enough to wait till after the playoffs to make a decision on which team to pick. Open up all your options then make the best choice.
yeah it does look bad when you consider making the playoffs cost us a lotto pick AND a top tier coach. but the truth is that the rockets were never going to offer the same front office control the wolves are. if they make that offer to thibs, no way we match. same for JVG. however, thibs might settle for a regular coaching job if no team offers front office power. JVG on the other hand might hold out for one. so, i'm hoping the wolves hire JVG and leave us with thibs. woj bomb says JVG is atop the rockets list. that's completely unexpected! hopefully he's open to a return!
Jeff Van Gundy Chris Finch Mario Elie Sam Cassell David Blatt Luke Walton Ettore Messina Rick Adelman Who else? Rocket River
Knowing Leslie, you can forget about JVG, Adelman, Cassell & Elie. Walton probably goes elsewhere. Messina somehow I do not see coming here. Blatt as an outside chance, but Finch & J.B. are top candidates probably.
What about Rick Adelman coming back? Love JVG, but i like Adelman better as a coach. If he's done with coaching, let him hire someone who runs his offense. Who runs an offense like Adelman's? Do you guys remember FUN basketball? This season was one of the most miserable seasons i've ever seen. Just ugly basketball to watch. I don't care if were not contenders, just give me a team that's fun to watch and plays with heart. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dwhaW2nVVcg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Kevin Ollie rumors heating up for the lakers maybe he could be interested in the rockets also? And does anybody know if harden was on the thunder while Ollie was there or just durant?
We have a better chance of Corey Brewer shooting 40percent from the field than Adelman coming back to coach the Rockets.
Why do yall say that? In my scenario, Morey is fired. Why woudn't Adelman want to be GM/Coach? Did he and Les have a falling out? I don't remember anything about them 2 not liking each other. I thought it was Morey and trying to bring in Finch that Adelman didn't like.
He was there for Harden's rookie year. Nice quote from Durant on Ollie... "NBA player Kevin Durant in an interview with Grantland said that Kevin Ollie (who played for Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009-2010) "taught him the ropes", and "changed the culture of Oklahoma City". He also said, “Kevin Ollie, he was a game changer for us. I think he changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City. Just his mind set, professionalism, every single day. And we all watched that, and we all wanted to be like that. It rubbed off on Russell Westbrook, myself, Jeff Green, James Harden. And then everybody who comes through now, it’s the standard that you’ve got to live up to as a Thunder player. And it all started with Kevin Ollie.” If Ollie puts us in the conversation for Durant, I'm not sure how you don't make a run at him. We've done the retread...
Yeah... Adelman did a bang up job being the Coach/VP with the Timberwolves.... hell he may still be paying Chase B.
Some coaches make real good coaches if that's all they do, but most aren't real good coaches and GMs at the same time.
He had injuries the entire time there. He was a winner in Portland and Sacramento and he did a great job with what he had in Houston which included injuries to two superstars. What's JVG done? 3 first round exits including losing after being up 2-0 twice and a game 7 loss by 40+ and one lottery pick he traded for no stats intangibles all star Shane Battier. It was hideous basketball to watch. Adelman got us to the 2nd round in just his 2nd season, doing it without T-mac. Then he had to coach a retooling team with no stars.
Of course i'd rather go with Walton, Ollie or another young college coach instead of a retread. But if we have to do that, i'd rather have Adelman than JVG.
