Your average idiot movie watcher loves JLaw still, plus she's still considered an A-lister, and apparently since they gave in to her demands to not have to wear makeup for half the ****ing movie she seems to want to come back for another sequel. Hooray.
Thought you guys were all haters of JLaw, and I was ready to say something about that. But after seeing the trailer, I can understand the hate; Prof. X gets kidnapped, and Mystique is the one to lead them all? What the heck?? A better storyline would have been Mystique getting captured. McAvoy and Fassbender are the driving forces behind why the new X-Men reboots are good; I don't understand why this is, essentially, X-Men: First Class with Mystique front and center. Also, are War/Famine/Pestilence/Death in this movie? Or are the four "followers" of Apocalypse, just Psylocke + three goons?
Lol at Psylocke + 3 goons. Magneto, Storm, and Angel are pretty big characters. Anyway I was thinking the same thing about posters reactions to JLaw, and was very surprised / disappointed that they turned out to be accurate. Why, why, why.
Now you have me interested in why the target audience loathes her. Do they loathe Mystique, or loathe JLaw playing Mystique? That wasn't always the case, was it? The first X-Men, Mystique was pretty cool to watch.
The latter, and the fact that Fox has made her such a prominent character because of JLaw. Not to mention the constant stupid decisions they make with the character. See: Her looking like human JLaw for the majority of the movie and being made leader of the Xmen. (Not to mention in the last movie making all of the Sentinels be able to copy everyone's powers because of Mystique's DNA -- Mystique's DNA let's her look like someone, not copy their powers. Just stupid **** all day long in these movies.)
They won't care as long as people keep showing up at the box office. The way they've treated the Mystique role is just ridiculous. They should just call this "X-Men: Mockingjay"
Ah, OK, gotcha. So, the JLaw era of Mystique has taken a very cool, yet relatively minor character, and transformed it into a lead character that belies the original character's role, because of JLaw....to the point some of the stories don't make sense anymore.
Yeah, I just wonder if this is due to JLaw insisting on being featured (a la Halle Berry in The Last Stand) or the studio insisting that she be featured. I would bet it's the studio, but that's just a guess.
She has proven she can carry a movie that makes a lot of money. Therefore she gets to call the shots. That is how life is. I don't know why people are complaining. If you are Lebron you can fire the coach.
Basically, yeah. They took a mercenary assassin and terrorist and made her into kind of what Cyclops is supposed to be. They'll say "they changed the timeline so it's okay", but it's just lame. We all know the ONLY reason they did it was due to who was playing the character demanding it to be that way.
Yup you could see in the first movie that she was supposed to be turned to being a villain but after JLaw blew up they changed all that stuff. If she was playing Rogue this could have worked actually but with Mystique it just makes no sense to me.
That's not a good comparison. The NBA hasn't changed the rules of basketball to accommodate LeBron. They're currently doing things that are 100% out of character for Mystique just because of JLaw.
Sure, that's how life is. But some people really like the X-Men and see that an Apocalypse movie could be really good. But when you totally change a character to leading actress just wearing yoga pants, it takes a lot of the central premise of the franchise. Also, people complain because internet. heypartner, your recent summary is spot on, from my point of view. It's like making a Batman movie all about Alfred, played by Jude Law, as Alfred goes back to school to become an architect. You kind of see Batman in a coma sometimes in the background.
In fairness, they developed them from her DNA, and others. I'm tired of Jennifer Lawrence period and I don't care for her as Mystique.
In principle, I don't mind looking at Jennifer Lawrence, especially when she's wearing only blue paint and pasties, but it is rather distracting to watch Katniss Everdeen take over so much of the X-Men. That being said, I'll live with it, so long as there's enough cool stuff otherwise.
