They don't? This is like the 3rd or 4th tidy succinct coup in the history of this show.... I flat-out expected it now.

Oberyn wanted revenge, he died but took out the mountain in the process, they kill Myrcella for it.... And now the mountain may be reincarnated, while Dorne is under new leadership who's revenge seeking may go further than just their own country.

I know it wasn't executed to everybody's liking... But they are a part of key plot elements of the show, and I don't think they're done.

All the other coups had more bloodshed or political machinations behind closed doors.

Ellaria is just like "yo, I'm gonna kill the king in front of 20 guards. Anybody care? No loyal followers? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?"

As much as I hate the Sand Snakes -- and the uncredible assassinations reinforced that position for me -- the fact that they've taken over Dorne at least will materially move the storyline. The unfortunate part is that we'll have to continue with these ridiculous characters and lose Doran who was comparatively deep (though glad to be rid of Hotah).

They ran away like the little b****es they are.

Season 4 finale. He's Brans mentor guy who was up in the roots of the tree. He's called many things. Brandon Ryvers, the three eyed Raven, and Bloodraven. GRRM (author of the books) is obsessed with telepathy and hive minded concioisness in all his stories so I guarantee you this character, his past history, and what he does with Bran to impact the stories conclusion will be important as hell.

Also Melissandre's age is now important if you want to speculate about her connection to other central characters in the past such as Bloodraven.

    This is minor but I am spoilering it because . . .well . . . .people. . .
I am Listening to THE HEDGE KNIGHT on CD and the name came up in the background
It is a Story that happens 100 yrs before the Game of Thrones

Yep. And I don't think we can assume that his intentions with Bran are surely for the greater good. The fact that he lives north of the wall but the white walkers seemingly can't touch him should be telling. And why is he north of the wall? Maybe he has enemies that he is hiding from. Again aligning with the placement at this point in time with the red woman. It's not a spoiler cause I'm just crackpotting, but its such an interesting and it makes the bran storyline much more interesting going into this season.

I was complaining about looking at her in that dirty old mirror, and then was like go back to the mirror, for the love of the Lord of Light, go back to the mirror.

That part is incredibly stupid and apparently not in the book. Guy with a small kingdom would rather assemble and plot a good strategy (you don't see that in the show, they dumped on the good writing) instead of blindly running into the battlefield and getting slaughtered, so you kill him? Bullsh** writing.

Nobody complaining about the trackers finding the ring and coming to the correct conclusion about Dany? This was analogous to finding a grain of sand in Russia.

The dragons flew off so they already don't know in which direction to head out of Meereen not to mention how far. Lucking upon the charred goat was nice but a stretch to go from that to almost effortlessly finding the ring in all of that trampled land.

It's annoying how they've split up the Essos plot into three separate storylines just to give people stuff to do, while practically sealing up the Dorne one. Of course Ellaria Sand isn't done, but they're not gonna follow up on her every episode. There's only so much she, as a usurper, can do while the rest of the story progresses. They've already assassinated pretty much everyone they can, and all Dorne can do underneath her rule, if it even happens, is go to war. Which is the least interesting thing they can do as a people associated with sneaky snakes.

I'm gonna give this EW podcast a listen, but i made do happily with History of Westeros. They go super deep into so much stuff, podcasts dedicated to family histories, current events, episode recaps. And every episode is marked as spoilery or nonspoilery so there's no need to worry.

Are you suggesting that Melisandre= Shiera Seastar?
The timelines wouldn't align if we are to assume she's 400 years old.

Yo they turned my boy Hotah into a punk b!tch. Book version would have side stepped that ho and sliced her vertically in half.
They can make Dorne more interesting by keeping the Sand Snakes naked...like all the time. Otherwise I don't really want to hear about Dorne.

I wonder who will be the one to save Dany. Will Jorah and the side piece swoop in or will Drogon literally swoop in and save her.

I can't wait till Thorne gets his. I have an idea how it will be but I think it will probably be considered a spoiler. The Red Woman tho. Dang she needs to keep that broach on, haha

Overall kind of weak first episode but I will keep watching of course.

We're in a brave new world where the characters are made up and the books don't matter. My biggest regret about losing Doran was that we didn't get his awesome snake in the grass speech. One of the best lines in the book series.

    Regarding the ring:
In the trailers, I thought wtf did they really just find a ring in the middle of nowhere? However, in the actual scene I thought they did an ok job explaining how Jorah found it. As you mentioned, the field was trampled but the middle of it wasn't (the Khlasar was doing circles around Danny in last season's finale) and that's where the ring was. Still felt a little cheesy but explains a bit better than what we saw in the trailer.

I don't think he's lawfully good either, but he's allied with the Children and fighting the cronies of winter, which to Starks, is a good thing. Of course nothing is black and white, but I still think the end is a fire vs ice thing with most people having to be on a side whether they had knowingly done so or not.

We couldn't really expect resolutions could we? It was like the episode served to remind us where we left off.

And we don't know if anything happened behind closed doors here?

When Littlefinger double-crossed Ned, and had the entire Kingsguard there at his whim, did we see any of that before?

When Bolton and the Frey's betrayed the Starks at the Red Wedding, did we see any of their commiserating with the Lannisters before?

When Jon Snow goes out to find out information on his uncle, and we find the band of the nights watch there to execute him, were we privy to their secret meeting to plan this?

Again... Pretty much par for the course for this show's history. For those that really think this world is *real* and would like every mundane detail showed in a scene or two, so be it... But some things (like Ellaria secretly meeting with the guards to say that she will assassinate the king) are better off left presumed.
