Things seemed to move at a faster pace than early last season. Not really sure what is the red woman's motivation. She mentioned seeing House Bolton banners burn. But Jon Snow would have other issues to deal with even if he were to come back to life.
You are pretty much dead on with your assessment. If you watch the episode online there was a little behind the scenes for the first episode after the episode was done. This is what the producers said about the Melisandre scene:
EW always has good recaps for explaining things <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">.<a href="https://twitter.com/GameOfThrones">@GameOfThrones</a> Melisandre actress Carice van Houten talks that premiere shock <a href="https://t.co/f9reF0NLlz">https://t.co/f9reF0NLlz</a></p>— James Hibberd (@JamesHibberd) <a href="https://twitter.com/JamesHibberd/status/724417627272024065">April 25, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">My <a href="https://twitter.com/GameOfThrones">@GameOfThrones</a> recap work in progress is now live… <a href="https://t.co/AadA7o5pwd">https://t.co/AadA7o5pwd</a></p>— James Hibberd (@JamesHibberd) <a href="https://twitter.com/JamesHibberd/status/724423030513000448">April 25, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Episode two is apparently when we get Jon Snow resolution (straight from a producer on the show) so I don't think we will get the Tower of Joy flashback next week with so many plot lines teased at the end of the episode. Couple thoughts on the episode- -kind of feels like the show runners were making a statement to the fans about the Dorne plot line in this episode. Pretty sure the Martell line was just whiped out. Something tells me Elia and Oberyn wouldn't be too happy with that outcome. -Danny's ships getting burnt was interesting because it opens up the door for another formidable house that has been sidelined to step in and provide their nautical services. Hmm which house would that be? -interesting that with Bran being so crucial this season they didn't have time to catch up with him. I'm very interested to learn more about the background of Bloodraven and learn about his motives in all of this. -Tyrian and Varys spoke about learning who is pulling the strings for the sons of the Harpy. I have to wonder if they are going to pull in a brand new character or if there is going to be a plot twist there? -Sansa/Brienne scene was great but nothing much to note. -The Melisandre twist was great. Explains a lot and makes her a far more interesting character. Also is great because she was the character the show blatantly sexualized the most by far. They knew they were playing with the audience more than anything. So apparently the necklace and/or the potion in the vile are used to glamorize herself to everyone that sees her. The double meaning there is that with her losing Stannis and Jon Snow she's seeing herself for being a fraud at the same time. I'll be very interested to see if she leaves off the glamor tools moving forward and see how that plays with her role moving forward. Only death can pay for life so my guess is she kills herself to bring back Jon but keep in mind that there are other powers around that can resurrect the dead as well. If Jon really does get resurrected which I'm not entirely sure of ... Well at least to where he's Jon Snow still.
damn brother we should have gone instead of watching the rockets get roasted <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Thank you for having me at the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Austin?src=hash">#Austin</a> preview screening of ep 1 of <a href="https://twitter.com/GameOfThrones">@GameOfThrones</a> Season 6! If they use the glamour angle to bring back Jon Snow, in other words just have someone else look like him instead of actually resurrecting the real Jon Snow, I will be disappointed.

Never really understood how those religious extremists in Kings Landing got so much power, but seems like they're all going to get slaughtered soon enough. Clegane looks invincible now, lol.

Dany's storyline has really worn thin, and that's more GRRM's fault than the showrunners, I actually think they've made the best out of some crap material. Her entire story from the time she took Meereen has been utter crap. As a book reader it has been all the more frustrating because I've been waiting 13 freaking years for her impact on Westeros and it still hasn't happened. I don't know what they have planned for her, but they need to get to it. Everything about Dorne has felt poorly done, which is ashamed because Oberyn set them up to be so freaking awesome. I'm not sure how much they deviated from GRRM's plans moving forward, but regardless it hasn't been good. Although I did like this more than most of what happened there last year. Having said all that, I really like the episode. Glad Brienne finally got herself a Stark, now that they have brought that quartet together that is an interesting group. They reset the pieces extremely well. Unlike the last season, I'm actually interested in checking in on all the story lines right now.
