My mom sent me this out of the blue last night 'guess who this is' -- she has never brought up or mentioned Prince before... the next day he's dead. Either this is a major case of baader-meinhof phenomenon or my mom killed Prince.
Man did Prince look so young and healthy for his age, he legitimately looked like he was in his 30's last year at the AMA and Grammys, hard to believe he was 56, harder to believe he's gone now. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LdE5bAGIyC4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I remember Lennon's death being talked about for months and months after he was killed. So many factors played a part in his death touching so many for so long from the way he was murdered, the release of his comeback album, the fact that there was never going to be a Beatles reunion, and the way so many of his fellow artists remembered him in song. The outpouring of grief was worldwide. Prince's death to me is personally tragic to me in that his music inspired the 1980's. I mean think of all the other artist's that he influenced or the one's who just downright copied his sound. He changed the musical landscape in a way not even Michael Jackson could. And to think it came from this one dude. I remember reading a story about him circa the Dirty Mind era (this is album is probably his most underrated) when someone asked if he wrote these songs from personal experience and he replied that it came from his imagination. There were no girls, groupies, or posse's. He described it as him in a basement working on these songs with hardly any outside contact. I was struck by how this guy, who seemed like a shy, loner, could pull all of these songs out by withdrawing to a basement with no one else around. He went from this Spoiler to this Spoiler in less than a year and totally changed his career and the music of the decade to come. FROM HIS BASEMENT!!! What also sucks is that there ain't one damn artist today who can do him any justice by writing just one song honoring Prince or his legacy. Jackson was an icon, a performer. Prince was all of that AND a musician of the highest order. And like Eddie Murphy I am still wondering how Prince didn't break his ankle in the Little Red Corvette video. And to think, on top of all he did, he also got to sexx Apollonia. Talk about dropping the mic and making everyone else look like amateurs. You will be missed, thank you for your music and being a badass.

Any of you Houstonians remember his Houston stop for the Purple Rain tour? Dude played 6 shows at the Summit- 6. Will probably never happen again. I went to the 1st and the 6th show. Thursday, January 10, 1985 and Thursday, January 17, 1985. A whole MF week in one city. That's just... crazy. And then we saw him again on New Year's Eve one of the later years. One frigging week of concerts in Houston. Legendary.
I hope he wasn't abusing drugs. I'm starting to think he died from acute toxicity to prescription pills or something. This is just too bizarre. Hard to believe it was just the flu. I'm wondering if he was covering up a terminal illness? Why would he say "wait a few days on your prayers" or whatever? That is basically an admission he knows he is going to die.
