Haha... sure. We could all use a break from your expert analysis of Gattis as a catcher anyways.

At least you're starting to see more of why Marisnick doesn't play as much... and why they had to trade valuable prospects to try and replace him last year.

Will it be possible to bring up Martes relatively soon? I'm not sure how things are going with him

If he gets hurt, he gets hurt. They are in an easy spot to roll the dice on that, and run him into the ground. He has no value on this team outside of catcher, and isn't under contract past this year.

They are going to use him at catcher out of desperation in hopes to get some offense from the position. Using him to get offense out of the position 1 out of every 5 days doesn't really add up. He's got a legit shot at being our primary catcher in the not-too-distant future, IMO.

I'm expecting them to be players for Lucroy at the deadline regardless. They've finally seen the light that Castro sucks.

Everything I have heard from people around the team is that Gattis cannot physically handle catching much at all. Last year I heard he really couldn't do it at all physically.

He's still arbitration eligible... he would have to regress tremendously at the plate to be non-tendered.

They're going to face enough lefties to where he's not just going to be in the lineup 1/5 games. And if he gets hot, he'll become the everyday DH again (actually did have better numbers against RH pitching last year, which goes against his career numbers).

Whether or not they trade more valuable prospects for Lucroy has a ton of variables that are out of the team's control and cannot be presumed at this point.

Honestly I agree with you in theory but I just don't see it. I would be happy seeing him catch every 5th day, I don't know that we will even see that much.

LuCroy would be a very good player to add, I also know the Astros (and Rangers) have a real interest in Derek Norris in San Diego.

Time of the month? Making stuff up just so you can argue sounds a little raggish.

Ok Gomez was a good move, now take a couple Midol.

Then why are they forcing him to catch?

Correct. One variable of which is exhausting their in-house options first.

Freudian slip much? That's exactly what you've been doing regarding this whole topic... talking out of your ass and making stuff up.

At least you owned up and admitted that you haven't the slightest clue about his abilities.

But some people watched him a couple years ago and think he's as good as Castro. Expert analysis.

Several more... where are they in the standings, how many of their other valuable prospects are already on the cusp of the MLB roster (Reed, Bregman, Moran), do they need pitching help moreso than offense from the catcher position, etc. etc. etc.

They want to see if he can physically do it now. Last year he had a hernia I believe as well. The Astros are not mentioning it, but I am sure part of the issue is that the Astros have more options at DH than last year.

We won't see Gattis catch this series, and he didn't catch last series. Let's wait and see. He has been working with the coaches to see how he does. I am still skeptical.... I fail to see how he can go from not able to play 1st or catch to being an option to catch often 9 months later.

I hope he catches and I am wrong and he does well and catches 80-100 games... The offense would be a lot better.

Making more stuff up, are we?

I said he'd be a better option than Kratz... and that he's not going to be the everyday guy.

And you follow it up with, "yeah, I've actually never seen him catch..." You're sinking faster than Castro's career BA is...

So is Holland... but Rangers should be going to the pen soon (which has been shaky, but seems to always right the ship against Astro hitting).

He had the hernia fixed... and like you said, there are more DH options now.

Oh, I am skeptical too, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying, their best-case scenario isn't Gattis catching once every five days. There's no reason for them to experiment with this if that was the case.
