With DMo the Rockets were close, once we went smaller we fell apart. When JBB's coaching nuts finally drop he will find out that going big is the way to compete with this team. DD
You have to be able to play more than 20 effective minutes/game... DMo is currently good for about 10 good minutes and that's it.
There should always be 2/3 of Dwight/Capela/D-Mo on the floor at all times in this series but our "coach" just can't seem to figure out that just because Smith, Beasley, and Brewer are shorter that they actually do not guard perimeter players any better, and are black holes offensively & wasted possessions waiting to happen unless they catch fire which hasn't happened in forever (yes Josh did have a few threes last night but still). In a playoff series you have to let players settle in the game, and not sub them in and out every 2 minutes. That's NBA coaching 101. Dwight/Capela has been our best front court lineup all season long and JBB just canned it right away, and with the bench unit I've really really liked what I've seen from the D-Mo/Capela pairing but again.... never used. Capela is such a unique player to use in a series like this because of his length when he gets switched on shooters but he saw only SIX F-ing minutes last night..... while Josh Smith who did nothing but hit a couple early 3's played 18 minutes. Even with getting such heavy minutes early on (that are far from deserved) he was blatantly seen pouting outside the team huddle, and throwing a fit for whatever reason. This is every freaking game with this team, and its always someone having issues. I still think JBB can be a solid coach in the NBA one day but he's shown pretty blatantly that he's not ready to make the tough decisions and lets the big personalities on the team run the show while he pretends to be in control by yelling at the refs. He's outclassed and like McHale still has a "lost lockeroom". Unless we are in full rebuild mode where JBB will be coaching younger players more on his level & that he has command over he's gotta go this Summer if they want to be competitive with veteran players.
Healthy started off good, then Green just out muscled him causing Dmo to miss those weak ass baby hooks.
Unsurprisingly the Rockets played some of their best basketball while DMo was on the court but when the game was on the line, they went small and let the Warriors put them away.
Very true. He hasn't regained that part of his game yet. It could be due to not doing it enough to get comfortable, but it doesn't really matter why. He can't be rushing those post moves.
Not sure either - he definitely was last season. Hard to know if he will ever be that player again. He's not as lithe, much stiffer. But, to your comment, he definitely did help with passing from the high post. Reminded me a bit of how bigs got the ball moving around in Adelman's offenses. Ironically, the one guy who was standing around while that was happening was Harden
And you claim to be an expert in analyzing the game. Bobby you are indeed blind. Dmo started off good, then after that Green started playing him really tough causing him to miss those baby hooks.
Rockets get destroyed on the offensive glass when DMo is in. Can play him big minutes against other teams, not golden state. Needs to be Josh, Capela and when we go small, Ariza
Interesting that you pointed that out.... The Rockets only have the center down low to go after the offensive boards, all of the others players are on the three point line. Basically GS is using their C and the two guys on the weak side to block out our center since their men are on the 3 point line. So the way the Rockets play the PF is basically a non-value on the offensive boards. T_Man
So much this. McDaniels and Capela are athletic and/or long enough to be the swarming, switching defense that we have built but have failed to execute and not given enough effort to execute. KJ McDaniels can't shoot well, so? Put him in constant motion on offense, slashing to the lane, setting screens on the perimeter. What a waste.
