JVG being out of coaching for years now is definitely a concern, but I do wonder just how much he's picked up from other coaches being around them so often. It's not like he's out of the loop or anything. He might lack recent experience but can make up for it with some knowledge he's gained. I don't know. Not my first choice for sure, but I'd be fine with it.

So would I. While I had problems with his offense when he was here, like a lot of people, the man is a hell of a defensive coach and extremely intelligent. He's been studying the game for years now from a remove, which could actually be a good thing. I think our defense would improve a great deal and, in my opinion, he would give needed structure to our offense while taking advantage of the talent we have.

Not for me, it means that he can't bring in Brunson, Ward, Oakley or Weatherspoon any more he will have to find someone else.

I guarantee you, he'll be more "with it" than McHale was at the time of his hire, or JBB was at the time of his interim promotion.

JVG obviously notes the difference in the game since well before he resigned in 2007. I think he knows those half court sets need to revolve around a Rick Adelman offense, which is what Spurs and Warriors roll with, which is great.

Its a philosophy in order to slow down the transition game.... which given this era of pace/run-gun, would likely have some positive effects.

JVG had problems getting Steve Francis to not hang out with Jay Z and Beyonce

this is HARDEN, he makes Steve Francis look like a librarian

Well aware of that. But his defense while under JVG was definitely questionable. He was a very capable defender—example would be the Dallas series when he guarded Dirk—but effort on that end was always suspect.

JVG also mentioned that McGrady wasn't the best practice player due to his natural talent and I wonder if he ever really held him accountable for the things like that.

And yet the current era is the most embarrassing of all your scenarios... they need to fix it.

So, you're speaking as if you already can recognize the main person that needs to change to fix this team.

If Thibs was able to get through to Harden... pretty sure JVG (who's more likeable and has never had an ex-player speak il-will towards him) can as well.

Pat Riley and Phil Jackson aren't walking through that door.

I love JVG the person, but everyone here is under the delusion that he (for sure) will bring great defense. Yes, he was always credited as a defense first coach, but he also always had Thibs for his assistant. It's not a given that he's able to succeed in that department by himself. However, my sentiment still gets the better of me. I'd love to welcome back JVG even though he ran "the Franchise" out of H-town. Even though he couldn't get us past the Jazz in the first round with prime Yao & Tmac...

Four franchise level players can do that for a team.

I also remember Tracy being excited as hell to get JVG as a coach.

It's so surreal so many want JVG back when I remember distinctly so many wanted him gone back then. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having him coach this team again.

I'm not so sure how i feel about JVG returning. Rather get some fresh blood in here. I know Luke Walton will probably go to NY, but a young coach might be better for Harden and Howard(we will strike out on all FA's and end up giving Dwight the max to stay relevant). They don't really have the personality to respond to a Drill Instructor type of coach.

Amazing to see the hyper-critical analysis of JVG... going into questioning his emergency personnel move decisions, the way he gets his star players to practice, and questioning whether or not he's observed and evolved some hybrid-quasi-motion system to revamp the league.

Meanwhile... the current Rockets are drowning. If you were drowning, and somebody was offering you a valid life preserver, would you question how it was manufactured, whether or not it had recent enough life-saving experience, or looking as to how it may or may not have performed in specific different circumstances that are really not all that applicable to the current situation?

A vote of non-confidence from cheke64 is all the proof I need. Bring back JVG!
