He is TERRIBLE with this team, he is 100% a cancerous tumor - the Rockets are a better organization without this turd. Harden is a ball dominant player who needs a guy who does not clog the lane - so trying to marry Harden and Howard will only work if Howard buys in....clearly he is not, at least this year. Get that guy off my team - if JBB had any nuts at all he would bench Howard for the playoffs and roll with Capela & DMo at that spot. DD
He's gonna get one last big contract. Dumb for him not to. Lots of silly posts in this thread (not yours B-Bob). Howard is not the solution, but he's not the problem - KEVIN MCHALE Howard is actually playing a little BETTER than last year statistically. And hes been healthy. Yes he's bad in the post, but that was always true. He's shooting 62% (career high) and his rebounding rate, block rate and steal rate are all up. The dwight Howard haters don't really use stats. I wonder why?
It sucks not having a good center, even one who isn't as good as he used to be. But the usual dumb posters will just find another scapegoat and another scrub off the bench as the savior
No it's Corey Brewers. Teams win based on their role players. Star players are free to gain 30 pounds and play no defense because it's not on them Its actually on the GM or something
Dwight is really into his feelings and once he no longer feels wanted he checks out. His demands for a max contract are crazy but all it takes is one team to give it to him.
This is correct. Howard is not the problem nor the solution. But.....he plays an essential defensive and rebounding role and will have to be replaced. And it's not going to be easy to replace his defensive contributions.
Holic, if DH leaves and isn't an option, which player(s) would you target to hold down the C position? And it could be multiple 4/5s. And a new coach with a defensive scheme would certainly help.
Agreed that he's not the problem--it's the first part of your statement that's the issue. When you pay someone the max, or close to it, he needs to be the, or a, solution. If the Rockets can get Howard for far less than the max, sure...but I don't see that happening.
Howard is absolutely part of the problem in the sense that he's not performing at a level that is required for a player making that much money. We could've used that $ 22 mil for much better purposes; instead, we're stuck with the declining center who basically has no offensive game left while also showing signs of deterioration defensively. Dwight Howard was supposed to be the second star of this team, but his production lately has only been slightly better than that of a role player. That means we're basically rolling with only one star, and lack of talent is a massive problem if your goal is to win NBA championships. Pointing to his shooting % and reb/blk rates is meaningless when his raw numbers have all plummeted to a career low level. A player who scores 8 points at 60% is not as impressive as a player who scores 25 points at 48%. Especially if the majority of the way in which you score is through lobs and putback dunks. There's a reason why we don't praise DeAndre Jordan's offensive game, despite his high FG%.
DWIGHT + MCHALE + ROCKETS = 82-37 69 winning % Conference Finals DWIGHT + MCHALE + ROCKETS + PLAYOFF = 19PPG 14RPG 2.4BPG 56FG% Dwight + JB + Rockets = 31-33 48% winning % last in the playoff Dwight + JB + Rockets + playoff = 14PPG 11RPG 1BPG 50FG%
It's ridiculous how much his D has declined this year. Teams aren't even afraid to attack the paint anymore. Offer Whiteside the max.
