LOL, wow that's rose colored glasses, he played about 1/3 of the season and for most of that he didn't play well. When you say "DMo was hurt", you do realize that you are only talking about the final 11 games of the regular season right? You know, after he helped hold the team together while they were missing Dwight for half the season.... Back to your boy Jones, he played poorly most of the time during the small portion of the season he played and was so bad in the playoffs that he had to be benched....after which the Rockets miraculously made a comeback to beat the Clippers. Had they kept Jones as the starter, the Rockets lose that series guaranteed. Once upon a time people could fool themselves into believing that Terrence Jones was a good player but that was a long time ago. Today, if you've watched him play over the last year and a half and know pretty much anything about basketball whatsoever, you realize that he's arguably the worst player on the roster and one of the worst players in the entire league. He does nothing well on the court and honestly has no business being in the NBA at all. You are talking up the 5th best PF on the Rockets. Think about that for a while.
This is a good point, they should have traded him soon after Harden was acquired..... The org seems clueless in how players fit together - we need to be a lot better at that. DD
If they scouted him, they would know how he played - there has been ample time to trade him since we acquired Harden. If you are going to build around a BALL dominant player - and we are - you have to put complimentary pieces around him..... Guys that ALSO need the ball to be successful should be moved ASAP - unless you are looking for them to run the 2nd team. Jones - should have been moved - we have a mess of a roster, because the Org has said, they acquire talent and it is the coaches job to make it all work. That is a naive view point - and it has gotten us to where we are today. We need a basketball guy that understands these things.... DD
Or they should have assumed that a player who was what.... 21 at the time would have simply improved enough to contribute on ANY team. Notice I said ANY. He did contribute for two straight years, but it was a given that how Jones contributed the Rockets could improve with an upgrade at the 4. Capela was an upgrade as was a few other Rockets. Jones didn't improve and now he's exiled. I didn't think the Rockets should trade him last year and this Summer UNTIL SOMEONE BEAT HIM OUT, and they did I guess.... so it is what it is. At the 18th pick in the draft getting a solid role player is decent value. Having to lose that player for nothing and watching him deteriorate after reverting back this much sucks, but it is what it is. Its on Jones for not improving enough on the defensive end to learn basic rotations, for not improving other areas on offense, and gaining the weight that limited his elite athleticism he has at Kentucky which was the main reason he was a potential lottery talent. *Also I see mention above of the Rockets "scouting" Jones as a failure. The guy was projected as a big POTENTIAL SF in the NBA at his slender weight if he could have developed a shooting touch. The Rockets had the need more immediate at PF and developed both him and Morris as PF's. Putting on useless weight & bulk. Not sure about the scouting failure but it should be noted that when Jones was scouted the entire NBA pretty much saw his upside as something completely different than he turned out. It is what it is... lets move on please.
If you are a players that has to bounce the ball it is NOT an easy transition to play off the ball. Those are two very different skillsets, very few players can do both....Curry can, Harden can, but most players can't. But yes, it is up to them to improve....and Jones did not - I am certain he wants out just as much as Bobby wants him out. DD
Yup, they should have known when they drafted him that he'd never develop his game in any meaningful way at any point in the future.
I'm certain that he just wants to stay in the league as long as possible before he has to go overseas or find a real job. If he can get 2 more years at league minimum I bet he'll be thrilled because that's not a given at this point.
THIS. Angry DMO is a revelation. Angry DMO can make Draymond work on defense and get him into foul trouble. Angry DMO can't save us... but he can at least help us not get blown out so miserably.
DMO was pretty easily the 2nd most valuable player on the team last season and helped this team get through that stretch without Dwight. Jones was a no show almost all season. Not sure what you are remembering exactly His injury must have really taken a toll on him because he isn't playing close to the level he was last year. I think its a combo or rust and confidence.
I still cannot believe you guys are talking about Jones Vs Dmo.... in a 300 what page of a thread. Mediocre player vs. below average player I guess the first Round is really boring and bleak for you all
I've never understood this thread and have not taken the time to go back and try to figure it out. Can somebody summarize the main points for me? thanks in advance.
They've been our two best options at PF for a while. Personally, I've seen enough of both to know that it's time to move on.
I disagree. When Jones was good, he was a really opportunistic garbage man who did not need plays run for him. DMo's strength required us to feed him the ball in the post, which was way outside what we were usually doing. Therefore, Jones' style seemed to fit with Harden better. Now, it is moot, because Jones is not the same player unfortunately. Jones has the worst RPM of any PF right now - the worst! Why he is even being discussed is confusing.
Was watching listening to the game on the radio on the drive from Houston to Austin.... just saw some of the DMo tape... AND WHY IN THE WORLD DID COREY BREWER PLAY MORE THAN HIM AND TAKE MORE SHOTS??!?
