Id rather have Korver then brewer. They wouldn't be able to even give him any space. Would open things up. we need accurate shooters period...if we wan't to continue to play this style.
What's weird is that they have gotten some supposedly good 3 point shooters, but they get here and start bricking. Thornton was a decent 3 point shooter, but was bricking it just before he got here and afterwards. He was definitely a scorer though his 3 point shot seemed to be faltering by the time he got here. Ariza had just come off of a near-41% 3 point season before we got him. Since he's been here, he's inconsistent with his scoring, but still an average-to-above-average 3 point shooter, I think. With him, even when his 3 point shot has failed in the past, he still gave good effort on the defensive side. Terry's been a solid 3 point shooter, but he's just too damn old. Bev's been a bright spot in that regard. He's actually gotten to the point where he could make a team pay if they leave him open. However, his defense ain't what it used to be, either.
Morey knows full well that he needs better three point shooters, the problem is that knockdown shooters who are also versatile defenders don't just grow on trees. You have to develop them or pay top dollar for them. Morey is obsessed with cap flexibility so he won't have a chance to break the bank for a role player. Morey also likes drafting undersized PFs or busts like Dekker so the draft hasn't worked out so far. Morey is forced to gamble on role players with questionable character like Josh and Beasley.
Having a streaky shooter like Thornton is much better than Brewer who is consistently terrible. Brewer is the 2nd worst shooter in the NBA..playing him a bunch of minutes on a team that heavily relies on 3pters is just stupid!
I'm still trying to figure out why everyone's b****ing about offense when, even with this team's erratic 3-point shooting, their defense is what sucked the most; their offense was still among the best in the league at putting up points. And I'm not sure Kyle Korver will help that much. I also wish we hadn't lost Marcus Thornton, but losing him isn't this team's glaring problem. Houston, this year, if you just look at putting up points, was a slightly better offensive team than last year's team. This year's team sucked on defense in terms of giving up points compared to last year's team. I'm talking about adjusted for pace. At least from what I remember when looking at the stats a couple of weeks ago. I will agree with some who say we need a more consistent option 2, 3, etc., though. Oftentimes, Harden gets stifled and you're left praying someone among Howard, Ariza, etc. has a good shooting night. Overall, however, this team will continue to be a .500 team because it gives up points about as fast as they can score them.
Morey can go a long way to addressing this by drafting both Melo Trimble and Wayne Selden. Look them up
10 years with this philosophy and not one elite 3pt shooter ever aquired, no Kyle Korvers, no JJ Redicks, nope, nothing. DD
And 10 years we have been a bottom offensive team? Why is an elite 3 point shooter required when there's another side of the ball to play? Seems Morey went after guys who don't excel at one thing.
If you are going to implement a philosophy of shooting 3s - one would think you would be smart enough to find some good ones. Why do you come to his rescue so often? No need to apologize - 10 years is enough time to prove a philosophy. DD

I'm sure it's very hard to get competent basketball players who are great shooters. It's not that Morey doesn't want them. But they are hard to acquire. You often have to take what you can get.
