I will be the first to agree that Jake needs to improve at the plate but alot of his intangibles have been dismissed by this organization and fans while Gomez has been pretty terrible and stays entrenched in the lineup although not in the middle anymore but not 9th as is Marisnick. I never liked the Gomez diva styled entitlement to the CF position while not doing a damn thing to earn it.
Brian McTaggart @brianmctaggart 44m44 minutes ago Gattis could get behind the plate in the next week http://atmlb.com/1Nw5tFe
barely won the series, and yet almost swept. The Astros were up 5-0 and cruising only to see the Tigers slowly chip away at the lead leading to a premature meltdown by some on clutch fans that the Astros are chokers. You missed...the usual on here
VEry bad call by the ump. The first one was a ball inside, and the last K was on a ball outside, come on ump, give one of the corner, but BOTH?????????
GOOD of the game Bullpen: Giles was spectacular, Sipp was good, Gregerson was Gregerson, very good. The reason I give Giles spectacular is because he faced the top part of the lineup and needed to overcome an error by Valbuena and a line drive that Altuve should had caught. Springer is hot, the Rangers will suffer in the next series. Altuve continues to hit. The bad: 3 homers allowed by Fiers, very bad pitch to JD Martinez on the homer when he struggled with 2 curve balls, and then 2 fastballs in a row. UGLY: Nothing ugly in this game. Hinch made a lot of good moves. Marinisck needs to play more.
Gomez as an Astro last year .242 avg .288 obp .671 ops, Marisnick last year .236 avg .281 obp .665 ops. Where is the improvement when you take into account that this is why we signed Gomez was for his offense because everything else is advantage Jake.
the prevailing reasoning (that i know you know but are ignoring for your argument) is that Gomez was hurt when he came over last year. And in theory is healthy now. If he's healthy this year, then hopefully this is just a slump. If he's not healthy OR if this is his new "normal", then yeah, more Jake time for sure. Let's see what Gomez does over the next month or so..
Finally a series win. It got a little scary there after having the big lead chipped into....but glad they held on.
Wasn't ignoring, if hurt why did he even play let alone every game? I gave him the benefit of giving last year stats, this year he's at .190 avg. Another month? We could very well be out of it by then but hey at least we get to see if Gomez was slumping while supposedly healthy.
And if memory is correct, i believe Marisnick was playing good baseball the last month of the season.
Out of it purely on Gomez? And subbing a player who, by your own posted stats, was equal to bad Gomez last year, will change that result somehow? Yeah, with minimal upside to making a change, I'd rather see if he's slumping or not. While also making sure the medical staff is doing everything they can to fully evaluate. If something's wrong, get him out

If Gattis can get behind the plate for some games, that can be a huge boost. A lineup of: Altuve Springer Correa Rasmus White Gattis Gomez/Marisnick Tucker Valbuena Noooooiiiiice!
