Outscoring your team???? Well ...****. Wonder what I was thinking about the entire time . Good to know man.
LOL. How are you not understanding the WHY of efficiency? Speaking of being dense.... Harden is a part of it, but there's no denying his playmaking ability. We have a bunch a versatile, long, athletic guys that we don't properly use to slash towards the basket.
Yup. Too many square pegs trying to fit into round holes. I'm still a Morey fan, but that's probably the thing I want him to reevaluate most. Roster fit is important, and if you want to just roll with a mishmash of talent...get a coach who can actually handle it.
You go for affordable 3 point specialists, you get no defense. See Jimmer. Problem is we went with defensive guys who were supposed to be average at 3's, and they haven't delivered the defense. Maybe coaching's fault. Most of our players are known more for defense than offense......yet our defense is the worst. The one guy who should never have been added was Corey Brewer, who has never been close to average at three - yet there were plenty of posters pushing it cuz he hit the corner three well with Minnesota in a small sample size.
Our problems go further than 3 pointers. As far as our roster goes... Morey is trying solve issues on both sides of the ball. A player like Trevor Ariza was acquired because he can hit a 3 pt shot at or slightly the league average while being a long, athletic, defender who can play/guard multiple positions. GSW and Spurs are not only good because their 3 point shooters hit at a good rate, but because Danny Green, K. Leonard, Klay Thompson, etc can guard and play multiple positions. That type of overall versatility is why we have/draft/go after players like Brewer, Ariza, JSmoove, DMo, KJ McDaniels who can hopefully walk and chew gum all over the floor. I agree with Morey's philosophy behind roster building, but it's the coaching/lack of culture that has derailed the Rockets.
This.... Corey Brewer fits into the Rocket's pace/ offensive versatility while being a defender who can cover 1-4 positions and over play the passing lanes. His offensive nose dive this season has been baffling and he should have been sidelined for KJ who pretty much can do what Brewer does.
In Morey's defense on Brewer, I was totally against acquiring Brewer, because he was such a lousy shooter. But he was great for us last year & kinda won me over. I don't know what happened.
Morey's use of efficiency through three pointers is beyond assinine with this current roster. It's the equivalent of installing a high efficiency AC unit in a home built with no insulation or windows. Yeah, the AC unit has the potential to be extremely efficient. But it's installed in a home that is poorly built and not ideal to help the AC serve its purpose. Welcome to the house that Morey built. Hot in here, isn't it.
I don't think I need to post on the forum anymore, since your posts always capture my exact thoughts - haha
We do seem to essential copy and paste our responses right after each other. It seems people are having a hard time of viewing our roster in relation to the entire game.
We had a good 3pt shooter..Bickerstaff never played him and Morey got rid of him! A shooter like Thornton is much better than crap we have chucking 3's now!
I will say it again and again, 3pt shooting doesnt mean good shooting. KJ was a really good shooter, but he wasn't a 3pt shooter. Picture this, a ball dominant player like Harden running pick and roll or pop with a pf or center like Horace Grant prime. Does that create space like a 3pt shooting big? Yes to a certain extent. What happens is on that high pick and roll, now the defenders give more ground because they have to retreat to a knock down guy. Look no further than the assist cp3 used to get dropping off to David West and now that Griffin has a reliable 17ft shot. So instead of forcing Jones and D-Mo into 3pt shooters, why not get them into the David West ,Horace Grant type of floor spacers?
Ariza was supposed to be a sharp shooter. He's been too inconsistent, but I felt good about that acquisition as it relates to 3pt shooting. But I agree, we absolutely have to get some shooters in here next year!
I do, this team Analytics means nothing. Just like Barkley said. Its about good players passing the ball around for the open shot. You got a 2, its open, shoot it, you create a play for a 3pt shot and your open shoot it. Truth is the team is dead last in playoff standing and should of let jazz creep in, but the league gave houston the easy schedule near the end hoping for a Curry/Harden Rematch, where houston gets mashed to pieces in front of live tv, because the city of houston is hate upon, and sucks in general in sports. Espn licks there chops....
