I know most people on here don't like Gattis, and that's all fine and we But can he really be a "huge disappointment " when he has only started 2 games
Our depth mostly resides at the AA/AAA level. While there are some high ceiling high performing guys there, they are also unproven at the major league level. Over time, I do believe some of these players will pan out to be consistent in the majors. But I am not so sure there is enough time for that to occur this season. Some say it takes 500 AB's to weed out the flame outs.
Gattis became a disappointment when other teams started intentionally walking Rasmus towards the end of last season/playoffs cause they felt he was an easy out. That should never happen to a DH
It's a get everything over with lineup, which to me is bs. Why is he giving everybody the day off at the same time? Gomez needs more than a day off(team chemistry hasn't gelled since the time he got here), he should have never been given the starting job in the first place. Centerfield should be platooned with Marisnick till one guy shows a definite advantage over the other. Remember this time last year when Marisnick was playing center and the team was making plays, having fun and oh yeah WINNING?
That's all fine and well But talking about him as a huge disappointment for THIS year is more than a little crazy
I think that's being a tad minimizing. Any time you have the Cy Young award winner, you have a 21 year old phenom who could be the MVP in Correa, you have two other position players (Springer/Altuve) who could be gold glove/all-stars any given year, you have a staff that led the league in starters ERA... and you have a bullpen that were the league leaders for the vast majority of the season in ERA, who just added a 25 year old flamethrower... you're going to have some optimism. They're a young team... but legitimate pieces are there. Run differential was real last year. Its hard to fake it in baseball. If they disappoint, that would imply a lot of players played below expectations (which is very much possible)... but expectations are valid.
Hard to believe players are taking vacation days only 2 weeks into the season... while we are 4-8 no less. But hopeful Marisnick can spark a win today. I'm off to get some ice cream and watch a few innings by the Potomac River. C'mon Fiers!
don't understand resting Correa, is there really that much wear and tear playing a baseball game if you aren't a pitcher? couldn't he at least DH?
i wonder what plague the baseball gods will bring today. Yesterday it was the ill stitched glove, before that the indoor eclipse to blind springer. =/
Its a long season. He's actually been in a mini-slump. Marwin needs AB's too. And yes... in a game where players routinely hit the deck, slide, run at max speed, foul 90mph pitches off shins, get HBP, and on occasion collide with brick walls and/or players, all while basically playing everyday of the week... there is wear and tear in baseball.
